Wow, it is Wednesday and almost Christmas!
I just LOVE the letter he is composing! And, gotta love the response to Zach here when he takes the letter from Todd and reveals his true purpose. LOL! Now what, Todd? Truthfully, these scenes make a GREAT argument for MPD (or DID). He is constantly switching in and out of various personae. It's possible, though NOT PROBABLE, that he's two people here, the one who has seen the light and the one who wants to put everyone's lights out. I don't really see that as the answer, though, it's just speculative. What I see is a damaged man, who wants revenge so badly, but also, at the same time, has a part of him that is so weakened by Rebecca's personality and being, that he opens to her without realizing he's even doing it, as he tries to manipulate her. "Her pet poodle, Powell Lord III." He does admit the religious conversion is an act, but I believe the other part of his time with Rebecca is not an act at all, it's his pain seeping out, and he can't contain it. Love how Zach figures Todd out so easily. LOL. He's not that complex for his old cell buddy. Just wait until Todd finds out Powell's getting out even earlier. Love the "switching" he does when Powell shows up. :D "Oh now Zach, don't be envious." He's a riot.
Look what Roger did. He created something so complex and so perfectly wonderful that we're still picking it apart 17 years later. Amazing.
FAIL: They do not put two people who know each other, or committed a crime together, in the same cell. LOL. Hilarious. I guess it saves the trouble of making scenes for them to run into each other.
Sound off all!

With "Pete" in charge and after seeing Nora with Powell, Todd is begins his second letter to Nora . He makes the mistake of letting Zach get his hands on the letter and as such Zach finds out that Todd hasn't really changed. Not too phased, Todd explains he's going to get out and not let Nora get away with putting him in prison but he lets Zach know the charade is going to continue as he figures out the next part of his plan. This transition clip just serves to reinforce Todd's manipulative nature.
ReplyDeleteWell, in the GENERAL sense it's obviously an "act" he's putting on to serve his plot for revenge. But I think there's a sub-conscious element at play, too. As he's forced to "pretend" he's remorseful and "pretend" he's sensitive, parts of him that he represses are tapped into that complicate things. Todd doesn't care about "finding God" or "repenting," but he is a human being. He does have deep psychological trauma and he's in desperate needs of a therapeutic release, as much as he hates having to admit that. Todd would rather just think of himself as a "monster" and write himself off as a "lost cause" to avoid feeling things he's not comfortable with, as opposed to the pure anger and resentment that he has grown accustomed to. But through Rebecca, he is lured into tapping into the human side of himself.
ReplyDeleteIn essence, he's just not as in control of everything as he thinks he is. He's blurring the line between what's real and what's an act. The PERFECT line to summarize this entire phenomenon with Todd was the scene where Todd and Rebecca converse in the hospital after his group therapy:
Rebecca: "I saw the REAL you."
Todd: "How do you know? Who knows what's real anymore?"
This clip again makes me see what a "motivation" Powell was for Todd to escape! LOL I really wonder if that wasn't there for TOdd, would he have made such a push to get out of there so quickly. Also, in the scene where Powell is telling Todd and Zach that Nora is there to get him out even earlier.....and Todd is ultra calm and smooth and so sincere and wishes him "good luck" with that........GOD can you imagine the ROLLING BOIL that had to have been going on inside him!!!!!! LOL Also noticed in the scene with Nora and Powell, Nora says "never know what might happen so I want my recommendation on file".......I wonder if she was speaking of her tumor and the medical condition she was dealing with....probably was. Again, the Powell and Nora dynamic really is creepy!!!!! LOL
ReplyDelete@juju, I hated the Pora thing. YUCKIE. Made me barfola.
