Clip of the Day, Dec. 9, 2010
Marty changes her mind for Poor Powell Lord the Turd. I am just sort of - UGH - about this.
"What do you have to say for yourself, you little Fink!" FINK? Where the HECK did that come from, 1930s films???? Hilarious! Just LOVE ROGER'S DELIVERY of all this. He also uses twit, ratboy, fink, a nothing, a nobody, a fool - all in one clip. LOL.
When they all have to say they are guilty, Peter has to hit Todd to get him to stand up and admit it. The whole ENTIRE COURT gets joyful with glee when Todd says the word "guilty." He held on tight to his "arrogant innocence" I call it. He did not want to let go. Once he let go, he would have to fight hard emotionally to not be the bad guy in his own mind, and he fought this with revenge plots and hatred, until....little Miss Rebecca. In fact, this day saying guilty was the beginning of the crumbling of his soul, and the only thing that stops him from completely disintegrating as a person is Rebecca's love, no matter how it ends up. Love that.
Nora's speech against Todd: I totally forgot about it. Ugh, the Powell Lord conversation makes me sick to my stomach. "There's a difference between Powell Lord and the other two..." I am sorry, no there's not. He did the same thing, and once again, he actually is MORE responsible because it KNEW it was morally reprehensible. I totally HATED how the show went with Powell here, but, in all honesty, if they didn't do this, we would not have that awesome rivalry that leads to the Hospital Rapes story, one of my FAVORITE TODD PERIODS OF ALL TIME. Not only is the acting and the story great, he's DAMN GORGEOUS during it. Wait, when isn't he????
Of course this forgiveness speech from Marty is like the icing on her character's redemption and acceptance into the good folks on OLTL, so I just ignore it. :D
FAIL: The wrong judge, I wanted to see Fitzwater back here! She was my fave judge throughout OLTL, except for the one who was at Gabrielle's trial for baby-switching!
Well, hope to see you guys around sounding off to the commentary! Enjoy and have a good day!

What I always like to say about this:
ReplyDeleteIf Todd had put a gun in Powell's hands and told him to kill her, and Powell had listened to him and done it...any "Todd peer pressured me into doing it, waaaah" excuses would have been laughed off the face of the earth.
But because it's rape, the peer pressure thing is actually taken seriously. Peer pressure is never a legitimate excuse...it may be a reason, but it doesn't make you any better of a person and it doesn't mitigate responsibility. In Powell's case, it just makes him an ENORMOUS coward, as opposed to "evil." Both evil and cowardice are things to be ashamed of.
And that's not even factoring in the harsh reality that Powell had to be sexually aroused in order to have raped Marty in the first place. That's just biological reality.
Hmmm....still Powell's choice and Powell's decision.....I still find his actions to be partially evil - and extremely chickeny. I do not think Todd is responsible for any decision that Powell made, and this is because we all have our own hearts and minds and have to make choices. Your last comment about sexual arousal is exactly what I mean!
