Wow! Two days in a row of Todd. I am happy.
Todd was about to tell Blair something when Jack stormed in his office. Ungrateful brat! Jack wanted to know how Todd framed Tomas. Todd said he'd have to call Blair back. Jack told him he'd never be his father and he was ruining the paper. Todd said easily that the circulation was up. Jack tried again to say that Todd was only using the paper to convince people he was innocent. Todd replied that he was innocent and that Jack could ask his mother. He almost dared him. Poor Jack, he can't do Todd better than the original. Todd said he couldn't force Tomas to do anything, he was a CIA agent. You couldn't force him to shave. Jack went on about the newspaper again and Todd asked him if that was the newspaper he tried to burn down. Jack sassed him that he couldn't prove it. Come on, the master! Of course he could. But Todd was going to protect him. He was his son, after all. And he would love him no matter what. Todd said his terms were: he would keep him out of trouble if Jack would 1) come to work at the paper every day after school, 2) Accept that Todd didn't kill Victor, 3) Accept Todd as his father. Jack wanted to know if this was blackmail. Todd said, yeah, maybe. These were his terms. Jack agreed. Not sure why, but I'm glad he did. Jack chafed, he felt he was being held prisoner. (Better than Statesville, huh, punk?) Todd told him they would be spending a lot of time together and would take baby steps. One more thing Todd wanted: Jack was never going to call him "Scarface" again.
Some would argue, I think, that Victor did something similar after Jack confessed to killing Gigi. Made him come to work at the paper so he could keep an eye on him. But, I would offer that killing someone is very different from trying to burn down the building, making an attempt to get everyone out, first. I thought it was a good first step.
Starr showed up at the Christmas tree lot and wanted to know how her mom was doing. I just love these two together. They sure could be mother and daughter. Perhaps since they've been working together so long, it's almost as if. Starr was worried about her mom. Blair's still thinking she's a loser because she fell for another violent man. She admitted that Todd had been trying to tell her something for weeks. Blair told of how she had gone to see Todd to ask him and he just got angry and jealous, as usual. But then she realized that Tomas was already in Todd's office. He must have been there to frame Todd. (Oh yes, it was all making sense now!) Todd was right to be upset that day. Starr wanted to know if her mother was going to give Todd a chance now. Blair didn't answer and they went to get a tree. As they were dragging the tree, Starr pointed out her Dad was right about having it delivered. Starr reminded her mom that she just figured out that she likes exciting men, that's all. There was no permanent damage in Blair's relationship with Tomas. She would heal from it. And maybe Todd was the one. They headed back to ask for delivery.
I was pleased to see Nora was feeling grateful. She and Bo ran into the Evans'. They were all most gracious as Phylicia Evans asked how Matthew was doing. They understood he might be having some trouble with it. But the grandparents were excited about the new baby. Nora gushed about the baby's room they fixed up. Both sets of grandparents thought they would be raising the child. The four agreed they needed to rethink it all now that Matthew was back.
Meanwhile Destiny wanted to know if Matthew was going to be part of the baby's life. What was it Matthew wanted? Home all of about 15 minutes and asked to make this life altering call. He, being the upstanding guy he is, said he'd be there for her. But he couldn't say he was happy about the situation. I don't blame him a bit. He needs time to figure out how this is all going to work. Matthew, wisely, said, if he had been there, they could have figured things out together. True. But Destiny pointed out it was a little late for that. When Destiny told him they would have lots of help from their parents, the talk got a little harsher as Matthew said that's what Greg (her father/brother) did to her. Matthew said he had a lot of classes to make up and he wanted to go to college and have a life. Destiny knew what that meant - other girls. Well, yeah, maybe. Her hormones kicked up and she screamed at him. He screamed back, just as the grandparents arrived with the food. The Dads went after the kids and the Moms noted they were just teenagers. Good thing they were adults, they laughed together. A nice moment.
In response to Roxie's call that he was the answer, David said he was the answer to all things media. Roxie wanted David to help them save their soap. David said he had to check with his agent. Roxie said she wanted the television execs to get out of their hot tubs and pay attention to them. She wanted David to star on Fraternity Row. David claimed that he's not a TV star. TV stars do their own laundry or pay someone to do it. Film stars don't do laundry because they never wear the same thing twice. God I love the way he sees things! Shaun pointed out, with a rather lame attempt in my mind, that Franco James was on Southwest General. (Couldn't they have done a little better than that?) Roxie continued pushing: if David was a contract player, it would boost the ratings. David refused. Shaun wanted to know who wouldn't want to be a TV star. Actors are great and stories are off the hook. Nice one Shaun! David said Fraternity Row ruined his life. He auditioned for them and they turned him down. David struggled with the reason: because he was too old. They ruined his TV career. He wanted to be on something that rhymed with "The schmentalist." David told them to let the show go. Roxie and Shaun gasped. Shaun told David a lot of people he cared about would be hurt by it. David winced, but then said he had to go meet Blanco for his interview. David wanted to know if they knew what it's like to have to talk about yourself all day. Pretty good, he surmised. He asked them to see his movie and then left. Roxie wanted to know if Blanco's show was live . . .
In John's office, Tea wanted to know if they were able to trace Tomas' broadcast. John's face was all screwed up as he read the report. Seems the IP address led them to a barren piece of land out west. (Don't know if that means the western part of the country, or western PA.) Tea wasn't accepting this. John assured her there was nothing. They had bounced it off 10 IP addresses. They just had no proof it was Todd. Tea wanted to know what they were going to do next. John said they needed to give Calmar a reason to talk.
John had Calmar brought up to his office. Alone now, he told Calmar he had something personal he wanted to talk about. Tea burst in, crying, saying, "You promised you'd keep him safe." It finally came out that Tomas was dead. Calmar jumped up saying, "They promised they'd keep him alive!" John wanted to know who they were. Calmar confessed they told him they'd kill Tomas if he didn't go along with their plans to come to the police station to tell them Tomas had done it. I think Tea said something and he realized they were lying to him. John pointed out that he had lied, too. John wanted Calmar to know that he expected him to tell them everything he knew. Kind of sloppy police work, I'd say. But Calmar was spilling. John wanted to know why Baker? Calmar didn't know. John wanted to know the real question: Who killed Victor?
Calmar must have fingered Todd. Later, in his office with Tea, John said it was his word over Todd's. They needed to find Louie. Tea, after a scathing performance of her grief over Tomas, doubled up in pain. "It's the baby!" I don't think an un-pregnant body could take all the stress she's been under. Luckily John was there to help her.
