I don’t think I can capture the full drama of Tuesday’s episode. Everyone was in the courtroom, including the newly arrived John McBain. The shot came from his gun, but I still don’t know where it went, why he didn’t blow a hole in the ceiling or adjacent walls. It certainly garnered everyone’s attention.
John and Blair (along with Sonny’s weak attempts) tried to get Todd to put down the gun. Everyone was looking intently at Todd, while he stared down Sonny, wondering if any of us are truly innocent, even though everyone says they are. Why shouldn’t Todd do this? He was going down for murder anyway, might as well get some justice for Starr in the process. But it was Starr, begging him not to do it, which lowered the gun. Then Starr went up to Sonny and faced him with a piercing look and told him who she was and what he’d done. She kept asking if he cared what he did. Sonny just said, I’m sorry for your loss, I didn’t do it.
In the meantime, Port Charles’ finest came galloping in and trained their guns on John. Slowly, carefully, he lowered his gun and gave them his badge and papers to arrest Todd. Sonny pointed Todd out to the cops and told them where to find the gun which Todd had carefully tucked away at his back.
Carly sidled up to Blair and asked “Who the hell is that?” Blair explained that it was Lt. John McBain of the Llanview Police Department.
John came to cuff Todd and Todd reminded him how much Cole had meant to him, didn’t he want to see justice? (John, of course, believes in the system.) When John just looked at him and went over to comfort Starr, Carly came up to Todd. She scolded him for going after Sonny. Todd asked her, since she’d just met him and obviously had no past to stack behind him, if she thought he killed his brother. (How could she know? But I guess he doubts it himself.) Carly couldn’t answer. She wanted to know what John’s story was. Todd said he had really attractive hair and no sense of humor. Carly told Todd he and Sonny were alike in that they were both dangerous and hard to kill. Todd turned it on her, “You’ve been talking to Blair, haven’t you?” Todd maintained he was the only one who would make Sonny pay for what he’d done.
John told Starr and Blair that he had gotten in touch with Cole’s parents. He also spoke with Sonny. John gave him an evil look and called Sonny arrogant, Sonny called him self righteous. Sonny teased John about how many times he’d struck out trying to take him down. John told him things were different now. He had patience and would wait as long as it took to get him. And if he killed Cole . . . “Don’t let me keep you Agent, I mean LT. McBain,” Sonny said to him. (I don’t have it in my notes and didn’t see it on the video, but it seems to me Sonny chided him for working in a small town in PA – what had he done? John ignored him.)
Blair was giving Starr platitudes again and telling her the Cramer women and her brothers would help her heal. Starr wasn’t sure she wanted to heal. When Blair went to say good bye to Starr’s father, Starr and Michael had a nice talk. They bonded over asking unanswerable questions. Starr told him not to feel guilty. Michael encouraged her to go home.
Blair told Todd she was looking forward to his trial and for him to pay for what he had done to his brother. Todd replied that she always liked him better. Wonderful Blair and Todd banter. She spat out something mean and he said, “I love you, too.”
Carly was asking Sonny what was up between him and John. She thought it was obvious. As John escorted Todd out, John and Sonny looked at each other, smiled and waved.
I don’t have all the great lines. Please watch it for the penetrating looks and sizzling dialog! Linda LaFaux compiled and posted this youtube video:
