RECAPS: Babies Here and There

Sorry I’ve been caught up in some craziness.  This recap covers about a week of shows.

After overhearing that Kate/Connie was the one responsible for causing the accident which killed Cole and Hope, Todd decided he could save Starr from a jail sentence.  He went to Sonny’s restaurant (which doesn’t seem to be the most popular place in town).  Sonny was surprised to find someone eating there and sat down to talk to Todd.

They had a lengthy conversation.  Todd tried to find Sonny’s softer side and get him to be compassionate and tell Michael to recant his story and save Starr.  Sonny wasn’t interested.  Todd remained calm and continued to appeal to Sonny.  Perhaps feeling backed into a corner, Sonny resorted to his tactics and pulled a gun on Todd.  Todd wasn’t flustered.  He quietly explained that if anything happened to him, stories would appear in all his papers about Kate and how she had caused the accident.  I believe he even had a mock up of the front cover to show Sonny.

At Starr’s hearing, without Tea, and with Todd speaking out of turn, the charges were dropped.  Michael had recanted.

There were lots of calls to Llanview.  John was arguing with Natalie, telling her he needed to stay longer.  (Though his call to Anna to ask for more time did not seem successful.) Starr was on the phone to her mom, too, telling her she was okay.

Michael shared with Starr that her father had used blackmail to get Michael to take back what he had said to get her arrested.  He explained that her father knew that Sonny had not caused the accident.  They surmised Sonny must be covering up for someone.

Todd went looking for Tea and found her on the floor of the parking garage.  Todd revived her and told her he was taking her to the hospital.  Tea did not want him to take her anywhere!  There was some wonderful TnT banter.

Tea went into labor and the two of them were screaming.  Something had fallen across the road.  Was it a road closed sign? Todd looked back to see how she was doing. Turn around, Tea shrieked.  So Todd turned away.  No, turn the car around!  Seemed it was a cell tower that had fallen.  Tea kept screaming and losing it.  Todd said he thought it was a cruel world and Victor Jr. should wait.  But Tea insisted she was going to have the baby now!  If I’m correct, this would not be the first time Todd had delivered a baby.

Todd pulled the car over and with much fussing and screaming, Tea gave birth.  But the baby was small and not making any noise.  Tea insisted that Todd take the baby and find help.  She made him promise he would save her baby.  It was pouring rain by this time.  Todd did as he was told and went running around, looking for help. He saw a place where a light was on and went to the door.  He saw Anthony Zacchara in a wheel barrow.  Of course, Heather Webber was inside, up to no good.  She took the baby and fussed over it, but said she couldn’t save him!

While Todd was there, worrying about how he was going to tell Tea that he hadn’t been able to save her son, Sam came stumbling into the cabin.  She had left her baby outside and came in to get help because she thought he wasn’t breathing correctly and John had never come back to get her.  Todd went outside and found the baby.  He was holding him when Tea showed up and just assumed it was her baby.  Heather came out and took full credit for saving the baby.  Todd and Heather went back into the cabin while Tea stayed outside with the baby (who had still not eaten anything!)  Sam remained unconscious on the floor.  Todd wanted to tell Tea the truth, but he was subjected to the Heather Webber treatment. Heather didn’t like Sam and told him that Sam was separated from her husband who didn’t want the baby.  Let her have the baby since she really wanted it.  Todd was confused, so he went with the Heather Plan, not knowing how disastrous her plans were.

When Todd, Tea and Sam’s baby arrived at the hospital, there was lots of praise handed out for Todd.  He was getting all the credit, but hanging back. Todd is not really one to shirk from credit.  It was obvious he was uncomfortable with all of this.  Dr. Steve asked him what he had done to save the baby, but he said it was all the woman in the woods he had met.  Tea said she had been concerned because the baby wasn’t breathing right and didn’t cry when he was first born, so she explained, she had sent Todd to find help.  Tea said it was Todd who saved her baby.  Tea was unwilling to let the baby go, fearing that if she took her eyes off him, he would disappear. Steve assured her it was normal.  They took the baby to examine him.

When they were alone, Tea gushed that she couldn’t believe Todd had come through for her.  Todd tried to be honest and said, “Delgado, there’s something I need to tell you.”  He meandered around too much, saying he knew what he had taken from her.  Tea interrupted and said he couldn’t change the past, but he had changed the future.  “There’s more. . .” he tried to say even though his phone was ringing.  It was Starr.  He wasn’t going to pick it up, but Tea insisted.  He went out of the room and told Starr he would be there shortly, but messed up and mentioned the hospital.  Starr wanted to know what he was doing there and he had to tell her Tea had the baby. She would be right there!

When Todd returned to her room, Tea was on the phone telling Dani about her new little brother and saying that maybe this was a sign they could heal.  Tea could tell there was something on Todd’s mind . . .  But the doctor came in and he had to leave.

My soap opera morals say this is the right thing to do.  Jason has been horrible about the baby and Tea really needs this kid.  Jason felt guilty and well he should – he had his goons beat up John.  If he hadn’t, Sam would be in the hospital with her baby.  I say Tea deserves the baby!  Jason got what he deserved.  Sam would get over it, but I don’t know if Tea could.  Todd, on the other hand, merely got caught up in a Heather con.

Outside Tea’s room, Todd explained to Starr, in the interest of full disclosure, that Kate/Connie had caused the accident.

Meanwhile, Jason had found Sam and she was screaming about seeing her baby. When Jason discovered and finally put the dead baby in her arms, she was adamant that it was not her baby!  It wasn’t clear if Jason believed her and was horrified at the thought, or whether he was concerned about her crazy talk.

Tea, holding her baby, was cooing at him and telling him she saw no resemblance in him.  She decided he was an original.

Outside the hospital room, Todd and Starr continued to talk.  Starr, I believe was surprised he had told her the truth about the accident.  Todd asked Starr, “When you care about someone, you tell the truth, right?”  He has grown.  Todd told Starr she shouldn’t seek revenge.  He knew all about that and they should be better than that.  When Starr took off, he walked deliberately back to Tea’s room, looking determined to tell her.  Tea was still trying to figure out who he looked like.  Todd thought he looked like Victor: needy and drooling.  Trying to steer her away from all that, he wondered what difference it made.  As Todd was trying to work up his courage to tell her again, Epiphany came in to get information for the birth certificate.  No, Todd wasn’t the father.  Epiphany was going to take the baby to the nursery.  Tea didn’t want to let him go.  How about if he takes him?  Tea was okay with letting Todd take him.  As Epiphany and Todd made their way, Jason and Sam came in.  Todd walked away, holding the baby, looking on as Sam and Jason told their story.

Starr had run to see Kate and face her.  In the end, Starr said, knowing it was Kate, the closure that she had wanted, was hollow.

The next morning, Sam was holding her perfect baby.  Todd was telling Tea her baby was dead and she was freaking out.  But then Todd woke up.  Eager to get them home to Llanview, he hurried things along.

He was lurking outside Sam’s door and Alexis caught him.  He made a good save, but was clearly rattled by the whole thing.  He went back to Tea’s room to find she had gone.  There he ran into Heather.

Tea was being wheeled out with Victor Jr. in her arms.  Tea stopped the nurse and said she had left a pamphlet in her room.  As the nurse went back, Sam came out of her room, right beside Tea’s wheelchair.

Todd wanted to go, but Heather wanted to talk.  Heather cooed that they’d not been formally introduced.  She showed off all she knew about Todd (giving GH audiences who didn’t know him, a pretty good history).  Heather was determined to talk or she’d tell what she knew.  Todd thought it was too late now to change things.  He promised not to tell about her burying a gangster and she would promise not to tell about the baby.  Settled?  I believe Heather still wants something . . . doesn’t she always?

Back at the wheelchair, Tea and Sam talked a bit.  The baby was fussing and Sam wanted to help.  Just then, Todd came back with the missing pamphlets and Alexis showed up with the Sam’s doctor.

The talk inside Sam’s room, convinced Sam that her baby was still alive.  But the doctor assured her that the respiratory issue which killed her baby could just pop up. At the same time, Tea was talking about how lucky she was that the gene she carried for Hemophilia, which can cause respiratory issues, didn’t come through.

Tea told Todd she knew what he did.  Wha?  Tea thought he wanted to get her out of his hands before something awful happened.  He said he was just trying to get her home to their daughter and that brother of hers with the funny name.  Todd admitted that Tea being nice to him made him uncomfortable.

Heather came up to them and Tea thanked her again for saving her child.  Heather was weird about the whole thing and said she was a private person and didn’t want a big fuss.  Todd wheeled Tea in the elevator as soon as he could, mumbling about how crazy Heather was.

I don’t know what she’s up to, but it would appear that the birth certificate she was clutching said that Jason was the father of Sam’s, I mean Tea’s baby.
