Clip of the Day, January 11, 2011

Hmmm he seems so sincere at the start of this clip! And what a hottie! LOL. Poor Rebecca, she didn't stand a chance. Oh that forehead kiss! Roger is SUCH a manipulator of US, the viewers! We're falling right into his trap, like Rebecca.

Now let's talk a moment about this manipulative actor, Roger. In these scenes, he's all of 25 years old and he's got us eating out of the palm of his hand (not that we would mind.) I just remember how this manipulation of me started. It was right around this stage of the game, when Rebecca started to understand Todd, I started to understand Roger and appreciate what he does more and more. Regardless of his terrible crimes, I fell completely head-over-heels for this guy and his morbid, tortured self. As I have written before, the deal was rather sealed during the Rebecca cabin scenes. Roger is a scene-stealer, and what I call an "eye-hog;" that is, you CANNOT STOP WATCHING HIM even if you should. That is why any self-respecting blogger or poster at a message board shouldn't poo-poo Roger's return or the idea of it until he or she has watched at least one full story, seeing the character come full circle a bit. It's ridiculous to read those kinds of comments; "I never saw RH but...." Until you do, you really cannot understand the frenzy surrounding him.

Of course, Poor Roger the Manipulator has a HUGE TASK if he does return and that is to overcome the current writing and state of the show, which can be scary to us at times. But when you think about it, he took any story, situation and relationship and reeled us right in. He's likely to do that again, if given the chance.

Back to Todd, his rage is so strong, he's more concerned with scaring people than getting away. He cares NOTHING for himself as a lasting person, just about the revenge. He's not taking steps to improve his life, or even to get away and start over, just get the rage out through the revenge. "Todd the rapist, Todd the freak, Todd the monster!" Yet, he does not kill Powell while he has the chance. Not a killer? Not a totally bad guy? Or is he? Nice ploy by the writers and Roger. If he was the monster (fully) that we're to expect, Powell's head would have been smashed with that rock. After all, he saw Todd on the loose...and could tell where he was and what he was wearing. Todd doesn't choose that route. It says a lot about the character. Of course, you cannot take away that EVIL smile at the end of the clip. It's an up and down ride with Roger and that's what makes him so great as an actor of this Todd character.

FAIL: The amount of times Rachel says hello into the phone with no response and does not hang up.

Sound off!

Todd has limits, and the line is clearly drawn with "murder." The only way he could kill someone is if he completely "snaps," and this would have to be in a fit of rage. As much as he hates Powell, he hasn't completely melted down yet (melt down for HIM and melt down for other people having different connotations, lol). When he's fighting Bo at the Beach House, you see Suicidal-Homicidal Todd at the end of his rope, trying to strangle Bo to death.

To this day, I say the Suede manslaughter (or "3rd degree murder" as the show calls it) is what brought Todd back to earth. It snapped him out of the "selfless rage" he was in. All of a sudden, everything became "real" for him.

Using a Ray quote here that I think aptly describes what happened..."that was the moment he started to live again.
