Question of the Day, Nov. 5

There are different schools of thought concerning Todd during The Scar scene. Some people believe that this guy is not Todd, he's Pete. Others thing he's Todd because the DID was not real.....what do you all think?

  1. OK Kim, you asked so here is my ramble!!!! LOL I know the medical world change the name from MPD (multiple personality disorder) to DID (dissociative identity disorder), but I think Todd is more of the MPD type person. Remember when Viki first had this problem it was MPD....anyway Viki truly has the dissociative part.....she becomes these other persons and has no recollection of it herself. I don't think that is true with Todd. I think Todd DEFINITELY has multiple persons or personalities living in his head but I think TODD is always there and always aware of them and can control them "if he wants to". When certain fans thought Todd was faking DID, to me it was just him letting his personalities run wild, he was letting the outside world see a little bit of the chaos that lived inside his head everyday.....it was his true self but on steroids so to speak. And in doing that, I think Todd himself realized how truly different all these people truly were inside his head and that they truly were real and it was the first time he actually believed it himself. Early on, Todd was not about to admit that he could have these totally seperate persons in him because "that would be crazy"! LOL So instead he had the rage inside him, he had the monster in him, he let himself love but "don't tell anyone", he ran to his mothers cabin to revisit a special time when he was a child when life seemed dire.....all of these situations show these multiple people struggling in Todd but Todd is always there. So after all this rambling....I always think it's TODD.....I think the different personalities are always there, but TODD is always in control. So when he seems like Pete, or Rodd, or Tom......to me it's Todd letting Pete or whoever come out to play but TODD chooses to do it compared to Viki who never had control and was totally swallowed up and lost by the personalities. That is were Todd will always be flawed (and why I love him!)... Vicki always came out smelling like a rose.....she had no control over it, it was never her fault. But Todd does and just makes bad mistakes! LOL

  2. So after that novel, I did think of a couple more things!!!!!! LOL People say that Todd was "faking" DID........well to me he wasn't faking the multiple persons that live in his head, he was just faking that he didn't have control over them and that is where the manipulation was. That is why the airplane scene was so intense to me......I think the writers were trying to show us that Todd WAS losing control of them in that scene.......and you can see that fear in Todds eyes during that scene. It's a shame we never got so see the fall out of that reveal, but I think that is what that scene was all about and it was the ultimate ironic twist on Todd....that he was manipulating everyone because he was in control and then just when the manipulation worked to perfection for him......that is when he started losing that control!
A great scene to show Todd being in control of the people and having that choice was the Belt scene......Pete was playing in full force in that scene......but Todd chose to stop it. If his DID was true DID like VIkis, that nite would have turned out MUCH differently. So again......it was always Todd's choice for me.....to let them run wild or not.....which is what made Todd's story so compelling. If you could just blow all of Todd darkness off because "it wasn't him or he couldn't help it".....that really would have ruined what made Todd TODD and would have been a let down in away. It's good stuff because you always are hoping for TOdd to fight it and make the right choice.....and of course he doesn't which of course creating the great Toddian stuff! LOL

  3. I really like your suggestions here, not sure they are psychologically/medically sound, but I DO LOVE THEM. All these insights sound similar to what I think about him. I do think he was AWARE of the personalities, but not through his whole life. I also think he flips in and out of these characters instantaneously....something like "he became a different person," etc. I think his lie later, in the DID story, was actually when he pretended he DID NOT know about the alters and that he COULD NOT control them, when he could and he was actually THERE and knowing everything. An example would be at the opera, with Tea, and his voice lost his accent and just became Todd. If that were a true DID, it would not have been like that at all.....and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. But to say he was faking it, no. He wasn't. These parts are all there inside him and he can manipulate them as he sees fit. However, the one place I disagree, is where he flips into PETE. I don't believe that he can ALWAYS HARNESS PETE IN. Sometimes, Pete's actions spill beyond what I think Todd intends. And this means, simply, that his own anger and pain are larger than his ability to control himself.

Love this whole thing. So glad I asked it, and SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK JUJU and feeling better!!

  4. Well I do think Todd struggles the most with fighting Pete........but I think it is because Pete is actually the biggest part of Todd, so he struggles with him more often. Todd, especially up to 2000 really is a VERY DARK twisted character to his core, and that is all Pete to me. So I think he has the ability to stop him but it's like a non stop battle doing it, so he picks his battle so to speak. And the more mature he gets the more he wins that fight!!!!!!
