CLIP DISCUSSION: Todd Manning Clip of the Day (255) | Sound off !

This clip today picks up where we left off previously in our daily clip discussions!  ANYONE is welcome to join in and add their info, thoughts, analysis, etc.  Thanks to bjujubee for the opportunity to still see these.

Marty is approached by Ray, Todd's therapist. JUST LOVE THIS. LOVED Ray and Todd.

"You can put this down on my report card. Works and plays well with others." Roger is so utterly gorgeous here, and so bitter and so strong. He's unreal. I adore him and his creation, Todd Manning.

This therapy stuff with Ray is amazing. They should have delved into this more, and I wish now, with the brainwash stuff/torture/past abuse. Roger would kill that story.

Isn't he beautiful when he says "I don't want to talk about my mother...."

What are your thoughts? I always saw Bitsy as a poor parent also, for leaving Todd behind with an abusive man. Not everyone agrees on that.

What a perfect starting point this was for our return to the Clip of the Day discussions. This is the start to one of the most powerful Todd and Marty scenes ever. She does end up coming to the jail to participate in this joint therapy idea. And, the outcome is none too pleasant for Todd. Roger and Susan are both perfection here.

FAIL: I can't think of one for these scenes, I just love them too much.

Sound off with your thoughts!!!!

What I really love about the rehabilitation storyline (besides RH's impeccable acting) is the way they avoided being overly cliche/sentimental in the writing. When Todd says the line, "as far as she's concerned, all I'm doing is putting her back into the hell that I made for her," and Ray just quietly nods at him...and after a few seconds, Todd gets that that's exactly what Ray wanted him to say/realize...that's extremely cunning writing.

I wonder whether it was Malone or Griffith who was really writing this part of the story. I always kind of got the sense this is where Griffith really started to work with the Todd character.

"Cunning" isn't the word I was looking for. Clever is what I was looking for...not sure why I said "cunning."

  2. Totally agree everything was written so powerfully. like you,I lean toward Griffiths myself. You made an excellent point about the way Ray leads Todd to things about himself

  3. I was mesmerized! I'd never seen this clip before. There does seem to be a lot of therapy that could be mined here. You're right: the writing is impeccable. It doesn't over sentimentalize it, neither does it shy away from the core issues. Roger was magnificent - the way he paused and used his attitude, even as he was being led to feel powerless. Susan was quite good, too. Continuing to be arrogant through her pain. I don't think that's easy to play. I don't know the full scope of the story line, but no matter how bad Peter Manning might have been to his wife, she shouldn't have left without her son.

  4. May I add, I'm starting to feel the Roger jones. I'm going to check out some of his work on other shows. Thanks for these clips, Kim. At least I get a fix of him.

  5. First, I agree with you on Bitsy and so glad someone sees her as I do. All the things that happened to him that were bad were because she walked off and left him there. Her actions changed the course of his whole life.

I cannot wait for the next clip in this set.....our discussion will continue later when I get home and get that clip loaded. The thanks go to Bjujubee who put the clips up in the first place.

The Roger Jones. Ah, yes. I plan to watch the ATWT that I've never seen (more toward the end of his time as Paul). I'll have to suffer through the Meg stuff, but it will be new material. I plan to watch that era after his GH stint is over, so I have new material.
