Clip of the Day, Feb. 16, 2011
OMG...another FACE SHOT that I love at 1:08. Sigh. His look when she says that she fell in love with him!!! I LOVE his reaction to her! He's never expecting it and the next minute, his voice is cracking, he's losing it, and he's so very beautiful in his delivery! "Not once have I gotten this right, NOT ONCE! And I won't, Rebecca, I won't! It's hopeless!" And...breaks down. I mean, he had me at the motel when he asked her to put on the make up, but THIS threw me over the edge into the lion's den. Perfectly executed, we want him to be vulnerable so we can understand why we fell in love with him, too.
Of course, POWELL has to find the clue to her whereabouts! ARGH. GO AWAY! (as my little nephew would say.)
Then we're thrown back into the fire. "You said you loved me, what that a lie, too?" Let's see Rebecca get herself out of this one!
FAIL: This foursome is annoying me, and they annoyed me then. As of right now, I can't remember how/when Marty got involved, but she ends up involved in this also. None of them are law enforcement, the closest is Nora, and she doesn't stop them, knowing that this is a police matter? UGH! But wait, maybe they are right? The police just can't seem to do anything right these days. LOL!
Sound off!

Clip of the Day, Feb. 15, 2011
Hello to all, hope you are enjoying the daily clips.
Today we get more of this window into Todd's soul....and it's perfect timing. Just when we are supposed to believe the worst about him, this kind of thing rears its head.
Complete with Elizabethan music (LOL), he lets Rebecca make her call. Look at Roger, he is biting his nails! LOL! He just makes the most of EVERY SINGLE THING HE CAN.
"She had beautiful hair." Well, that explains it! Thanks!
"You are the one person since my mom died that I trusted." Well, that explains THAT too, thanks!
All of the self-loathing that we see throughout Todd's life, it's all connected to his mother leaving him behind, his father's abuse and how he saw himself - never worthy of love.
I LOVE WHAT REBECCA DOES HERE! She just lets him have it, again! She sets him straight. I mean, what does he expect, after all, he just committed huge crimes, tried to hurt and kill everyone in his path. No wonder she's a wreck. But, only he knows his insides, so only he knows that he won't really hurt her, and there's no way she can believe it, since she's just like everyone else - afraid. I love how she throws up her life to him! I think he needed that wake up call! Love it when she breaks down and tells him he's put her in hell.
His face, at 6:38. OMG.
"It's just a dream, Rebecca, nothing that good ever happens to me."
We'll see! I think this leads to my fave scene between them, but . . . more tomorrow!!
FAIL: HUH??? No.

Clip of the day, Feb. 12 and 13, 2011
After last night, I can only imagine what he must have looked like in these scenes. He's gorgeous in these YT vids, but on the television yesterday, just stunning. Indescribable. Imagine!
Todd is so beautiful here! And starting to get the rawness and open-woundedness. Love this whole part.....! You can see his tattoo ring when when he is looking at the map.
I love these scenes because they lead to my fave early scenes, in that cabin! Cannot wait!!!
Back on the road, let's see how the police do in these scenes (rolls eyes.) Todd is a raw, complicated mess here. He wants badly to be able to trust her, to be normal., but his anger, suspicion and guilt override that. I gotta give it to Rebecca, she holds her own and stands up to him. He's apologizing - then, he's yelling again. She wants the handcuffs undone, and they bargain. She helps him dump the car into the river, and asks him to trust her. It's clear he can't and to us, it's clear that it's more than just her actions. Inside him, everyone he's cared about, and he has also mentioned this, has left him behind.
Can his face be more beautiful? Even though these scenes are dark, his face is amazingly expressive and flawless. Roger probably has the best face I've ever seen in daytime, and maybe EVER. Gorgeous. I love when he pauses with Rebecca before pushing the car into the water, and thinks about where he is; "You're right about this place" and he starts to open up, then catches himself. We know we're nearing something important, so does Rebecca, and she's damned if she doesn't get him to delve into it.
FAIL: POWELL. UGH. Can anyone be more annoying?

COTD, Jan 27 and 28, 2011 OOOPS
Just imagine, at this time next year, I may be doing COTDs of the current show. OMG, just thinking about that one!!!
Rebecca is so cute and hurting for him here, and he flips out on her and she starts crying, she sounds similar to a little child. He is so wacked out...these scenes are SO FANTASTIC. The two of them are such total opposites!
"Any chance for us to have a future would be gone, forever." Talk about sweet talk! This guy could get me to do just about anything!!!
I think we are starting to see a crack in the armor here. Even though he's got a gun, no one can help but feel sorry for him. At this point, he's like a lost soul and Rebecca is the only one who seems to have the motivation to do something about it. He's alone in the world, aside from her, and she is also, alone in the world.
I love the MUSIC that they composed for this couple! Wow. IT was so Renaissance in feel. And then, with Todd in his genie get up and that Zorro costume - who could blame ANY GIRL?
Can't wait for those cabin scenes.
Here's today's:
This clip is similar to the previous. He is doing his famous self-talk...."just like your Dad told you. You're wrong about me, Dad. You've always been wrong about me." God, that tugs at the heart-strings when watching it with the knowledge of what he has endured in his life. "I'm not weak, and I'm not useless." Then, he trips and falls. I remember, much later in the story, thinking, "can this guy catch a break?" It was around the Hospital Rapes time. He had one thing after another happening. It just seems in these scenes, he is destined to have the tables turned against him at every turn. But doesn't he deserve it? At this point, YES. For me, he evolves (unlike other actors/characters) throughout his first year and a half on the show. The evolution that takes place is amazing to watch unfold. And we are lucky to do so over and over and over (thanks to Juju and people like her!)
Now that he has a gun, he takes a seemingly more dangerous turn and so does the story. It is getting to some of my favorite parts, like the cabin, his first "death," the hiding out in the Garden Shed, NYC, and the Zorro thing!!!!!
FAIL: None...he's just too good.
Sorry for missing yesterday! Sound off!

Clip of the Day, Jan 9, 2011
I am sorry to be LATE with today's clip, but I could NOT tear myself away from the story I am watching in the later times of Todd's life!
Wow, the comparison between Todd the STALKER and Todd the DOTING FATHER who is LOOKING OVER HIS SICK DAUGHTER is.....hard to explain in words. Current viewers talk about "the evolution" they see in "Todd's character," but they could NEVER be so wrong. The REAL evolution of this character took place from the car crash and pardon to the DID story. Roger allowed us to WITNESS the change in this character over time, through good times and bad, and the experiences and people that changed him throughout the few years we were fortunate enough to see his work.
You'll never see me jump on the bandwagon against or for Todd as a redeemed family man. I don't see it that way. I see it as a multi-faceted character who WILL NEVER be one way or the other fully. In other words, he won't ever be a leading romantic man all the time; he won't ever be a cruel, violent character all the time; he won't ever be a newspaper publisher all the time; Todd will be many things, all the time. He will be the most complex and intriguing character ever to grace daytime. Of course, we're not referring to the current "Todd," but the only and the original.
That being said, I am not against the scenes and stories where he is acting as a loving father and devoted husband. And, I am not against the scenes where he is holding 14 people hostage, or throwing Tea out into the snow. These scenes are ALL PART OF HIM and show what he's capable, good and bad. I've come to accept, as everyone should, a constant ebb and flow and up and down for this character, as long as Roger is playing him. He'll never be fully happy and fully forgotten as a rapist, and he'll never be fully damned and lost to life either. This is what I love about him.
As a writer, I see that all aspects of Todd were crucial in developing him. Writing Todd must have been the most fun a writer can have. You have full reign to make him painstakingly cruel, heartbreakingly miserable, pitifully damaged, mysteriously caring, and heart-warmingly romantic AT THE SAME TIME. What is better than that? Writing a one-note character, say a "hero" is so much easier, but also so much more dull.
Todd'll never be static and he'll never be boring, that is for sure, and that is why current "Todd" is not Todd at all. The Real Todd Manning is a writer's dream if the writer has the capability, compunction and creativity required. Of course the writers are not alone; without an actor like Roger, you have NOTHING. This is why you'll never catch me poo-pooing the Lord Heir story. It was necessary to have him rise, and then painfully crash, and do this again and again. That's WHO HE IS. This "rinse and repeat" is how LIFE REALLY IS for us human beings. We often make the same mistakes with the expectation of different results. It sometimes takes us years, or a lifetime, to see which way to go and what to change.
However you slice it, our Todd, the Real One, evolved a HUGE amount in a very short 6 years. Even the comparison between Stalker Todd in this clip, and Toy Store Todd only 3 years later is STUNNING. Thank you Roger, and I believe Josh, for this.
So today's clip is a tad empty until the last few minutes. Mostly, it's Marty and Rebecca chewing the fat regarding Todd, Jason and Marty chewing the fat regarding Suede, and our boy trying to get into position to make Marty pay, once and for all and hiding under her bed (I just looked hopefully under mine, no dice.) Driven to almost madness, his need for revenge was bigger than anything else at this point, even his freedom. Compare this to a man who is willing to do anything, even trade his own life, for his one-year old little daughter's. So complex and rich!!! The thing that people COMPLAIN about regarding Todd is really what has made us hooked into him. Expecting Todd to be one way all the time is a foolish folly. He can be like us, and be like someone we'd never want to be, all in a day's work.
FAIL: Too much talk about Suede and not enough TODD. LOL.

Clip of the Day, Jan. 7, 2011
Ok, back to business as usual. After our fiasco on OLTL yesterday, I can only say I am happy to have these videos, even if that is all we've got! Thank GOD! And there are tons of them that I have not seen, that I am going to be fortunate to watch unravel as time goes on. Thanks to . . . The Goddess Juju. (Geesh I sound like Luna.)
So! The worst part about being in prison, Powell dear, was seeing Todd? Must be quite the country club then. Powell just goes and scares the HECK out of Marty!
Rebecca: Your eyes, like you're somebody else!
Todd. What a complex and wonderful and vile and scary and complex and romantic and weird and vindictive and funny and sensitive and tortured character. Wow, does that cover it? I know, some of you are out there saying "sexy." Yes yes, he is. How can we ignore that??
Todd: You brought me hope. That is exactly what Rebecca brought, and exactly what her role was. I was sorry, at the time, to see Rebecca leave without exploring their "relationship" as a couple, but in reality, it never would have worked out, because she was SO DIFFERENT from him. He needed someone a little dangerous and a lot conniving to match his schemes (no names mentioned). But she served a very big purpose and served it quite well.
FAIL: Powell, who cares. Especially when he goes around scaring Marty with how scared he is.
Sound off! Hopefully, a meatier clip or two over the weekend and The Goddess will find time to grace us with more Todd and Tea from 1997 and 1998.

Clip of the Day, Dec. 15, 2010
Uh, ok...Todd talks a guard into letting him harass NORA. LOL.
The sound in this scene is terrible. When they FILMED it, they made the person on the other side of the glass lose sound depth and it's ANNOYING!!! How strange! It's hard to hear some of what Nora says. I can't believe that Powell is now her confidant and helper. Sigh. He gets her to talk and then.....whammo!
My God, Roger.....he's so amazing. Watching this scene, he just goes totally off the deep-end, Peteish yelling and his vile rottenness showing. In all seriousness, he's not totally wrong about Nora's role in his fate, but it's not her FAULT, it's his own for doing the terrible deed. But, he transfers all of his guilt and his pain to her! HBS plays the terrorized woman quite well here also. But Roger's performance is stellar as always. She finally loses it as he gets dragged off. Powell stands there like a goober.
Next scene, why is Powell in the kitchen again? I thought he got library duty!? the conversation between them is starting to show that rivalry growing. Powell does have the last line in this one, and it's done well. Todd's sickness is growing, and soon, he will be "out and about." LOL.
REBECCA! She's HERE! So happy to see her because the story takes a big change when she comes on the scene...and I love it! Finally, Todd starts to become even more complicated.
FAIL: Powell's Preppy hair, how does it stay perfectly coiffed in jail? Love Todd's wild unkempt look, makes more sense, except I thought they CUT your hair? Maybe not, never been there so I can't say for sure. Also, that dumb guard leaving Todd unattended on a prisoner's word? How stupid is that? Of course, he'd never be able to interact with Nora without the stupidity.
