Good Afternoon America Down 57 Percent From One Life to Live's W18-49 Numbers This Time Last Year | Daytime Confidential: "Good Morning America may be breaking records, but its spinoff vehicle continues to lay a smelly, rotten egg on the ABC afternoon lineup. Think of it as Baywatch Nights to Baywatch. According to TV Media Insights, Good Afternoon America was down 57 percent—during the most recent Nielsens cycle—from One Life to Live's numbers among the coveted women 18-49 demo year-to-date."

Again, I feel cruddy for basking in someone's misery, but both of these people on the show are employed elsewhere....just don't want this SHOW ever COMING BACK......must have #GH, it is all we have left.

GAA could be a threat to GH

There has been speculation that, if “Good Afternoon America” garners significantly higher ratings than the low-rated lifestyle series that it replaced, “The Revolution,” the “GMA” spinoff could eventually replace ABC’s sole soap opera “General Hospital.”
The editor of the soap publication Soaps In Depth even penned an article encouraging soap fans not to watch the show in order to secure GH’s future. Sherwood refused to address the question saying, “I’m not a programming guy. That’s totally not [my decision]. We were given a mission which was to produce nine weeks of ‘Good Afternoon America’ and sort of show us what that feels like. That was our mission. So we don’t have [the power] to make those bigger decisions.”

"Suck it, ABC!!! You are getting yours, huh?Your newest dog isn't even as good as the dog it replaced. No offense, I love dogs. These shows are so bad, that it's offensive to call them dogs. They're rats. How's that? GAA is a massive failure so far. And it keeps getting worse!!!
HA!!!Take that, ABC!!! Your fuck up is the gift that keeps on giving. GAA premiered at a 1.7. That's bad. BY Wednesday, it was down to a 1.5. Thursday, the same. That's a 12% drop in two days. Nice work. Good job. Your lame, cheapass replacement for the lame, cheapass replacement is a giant stinkfest of crap!! Couldn't happen to a nicer group of guys. You're not even at bad AMC numbers at this point. And, wait for it, they're down 53% from OLTL!!"

"But "General Hospital" is still doing much better than that. Despite ABC's attempts to kill it, "GH" had 2,277,000 viewers last week. The key demos had 558,000 women 18-49. So there. The fact is, if ABC had just put some money and real talent into the soaps, they wouldn't now be in this weird whirlpool of ratings anxiety. "GAA" is totally unnecessary. It's just more of "The Chew" with less bite."
Let's hope.

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC has brought its morning news franchise to the afternoon, but it might want to hold on to its alarm clock.
"The debut edition of "Good Afternoon America" on Monday ended abruptly in mid-anecdote from singer Liza Minnelli, who was being interviewed after performing "New York, New York" in the show's Times Square studio. Host Lara Spencer interrupted her to wave goodbye."
Lets hope that wave goodbye was a portent of the future. We can't afford any show to take the place of OLTL in the ratings, or it could spell trouble for GH.

The View from Denial Island: General Hospital's Last Air Date In Current Time Slot SET!

While this news has been out for awhile it hasn't quite sunk into the soaposphere so I am going to post it. As of today (January 26th 2012), the very last episode of ABC's soap opera General Hospital will air on Wednesday- September 5th 2012 in its current 2pm cst/3pm est timeslot. while this isn't necessarily the end of General Hospital, it is not in anyway good news.
We wish the cast and crew at General Hospital the best of luck in the coming days, because they will all need it. Stay tuned to Denial Island for more coverage as the fate of General Hospital continues to develop.
