Clip of the Day, Nov. 4, 2010
When I watch the beginning of this clip, I can't help but thing of Todd's DID. He slips in and out of different personae like a champ. He's trying to be so nice and cordial and then hangs up with that face - "sucker." LOL. And LOL at Elmer, walking into the bar, WEARING the SWEATBAND when Suede and Kevin are just talking about it!!!
That OLTL, always putting small details in our midst.
This clip also of course brings up one of my fave Todd issues - DID. I am sure we'll have LOTS to talk about with this stody when it starts to be posted here, but, even though it may not have even been imagined at this point in Todd's story, I always look for clues reaching way back - to see hints that it was actually a real syndrome. However, Todd's ablilty to slip in and out of "being other people" could also mean he was faking! This is going to be a good QOTD!!
Todd's face is so intense here, when hearing Luna's show, one wonders what was really going on in his head at this point. If he was not "himself" he could have been thinking about his own abuse, which brought his rage up further. If he was Todd, he may not have even been aware of his own abuse. Either way, Roger puts that rage into place and we can see it, seething.
Roger plays this whole thing perfectly. "Whore" always rolls off his tongue in the creepiest way. He's over the edge and we get to see it first hand. These private, "alone" scenes of Roger's get to be part of the show pretty fast. He's one of the only actors who can carry them off in such a way. Erika Slezak is another who can do this same thing; command a scene totally alone without interaction with no one else. Very few actors can do this. Roger happens to be one of the best ever at it. He's barely even speaking in these scenes and conveys all we have to know.
FAIL: Marty admitting on the air who she is. That was a real blunder, in the sense that in reality, all calls to Luna's line would have been screened by the radio station prior to the call going through, and to protect her privacy as well as her upcoming trial, her name would have been kept secret. I can't even imagine a caller urging someone to do something so dangerous to herself and her future. Weak. She goes on to name the rapists! This was a legal travesty, since they were not found guilty, and she's now up for major liable! Weaker. the caller asked her to name herself, not the perps. The station would have been sued apart.

Clip of the Day, Nov. 2, 2010
Happy Election Day! Well, today we have a no-kids day, but the good thing is that I get to come home a bit early and can spend a little more time at TRTM I hope! Anyway, here's today! Todd's so menacing.
It's creepy when he is in Marty's car. Somehow, I totally forgot about that scene. He really was off the deep end here! The doorway on the garage reminds me so much of the stables, I got confused! LOL. Todd's off his rocker with rage at this point, and I am wondering if these scenes were before or after OLTL decided he was too good to let go and signed him? I also forgot that Suede was a bartender at Roadies. LOL.
I do love Max, or at least I did. I love watching him - and it makes Luna bearable. As they talk about the radio show, Todd is at his hotel drinking some beer (LOL) and gets an interruption - he's kicked OUT. Of course, this adds fuel to the fire and....we know our boy won't be able to take it.
Zach continues to try and keep things status quo, but Todd's anger and rage goes too deep - he cannot keep a lid on it and takes everything to heart. And he always was this way, throughout most of his stories. The actor was always true to the character. Take a look though, carefully, as you watch this Todd (I call Frat Boy) and compare him in your head to Lord Heir Todd, or DID Todd - and you can see an amazing maturity and growth as an actor where Roger is concerned. I love it. He was commanding here, but he's even MORE commanding then - it took great co-actors to be on the same screen with him and not get lost, like KDP, FL, SH and KB as well as ES.
"Like it's my fault!" He can't even see that it is. I was waiting for Zach to say it, but instead he tries to calm him down. Zach is just a classic enabler, and I still cannot place what his role really was, but I do find him to be the most callous and unfeeling of the three. I still say, Zach = sociopath, Todd = DID sufferer and Powell = NUTSO. LOL. Watching him here and having watched the future stories, he does go through a miraculous change of heart later on, and DOES learn, which leaves Todd out of the sociopath label. He shows remorse, he learns, and he changes. HOWEVER, this refers to the Todd up to 1998 (jury still out on post-98 Todd, at least for me.)
Oh so THIS is where it started.....there are several times Todd says things during scenes that echo the music in the background. Luna does it in this edit, and I think it's the very first time that it happened. It's a bit corny when she says it, how come it never was when RH did?

Clearly, these scenes are setting us up for the event in the alley that follows, one of the best-played scenes that Luna ever did....and of course, RH and SH just shine in their crazed relationship.

Between Suede and Luna, and later Dylan, it just gets too much. Though I love Blair, as you all know, I just do not love these these accents at all. Sheesh.

Todd gets more reprimanding from Peter the Hate . . . and puts his plan of scaring Marty quiet into action! Commentary follows.
Peter is going off the deep end here, and Todd is terrified and again, like a little boy. He's been rejected, over and over, by this man, and also abused....all he does is try and please and placate him to no avail. This explains the desperation he feels to get Marty quiet and cover up his own sins. Peter calls him a loser and finally leaves. Zach has been sitting there the whole time. Todd's reaction to his father's words are to work harder to please him, and we know where that takes him.
Marty agrees to go on Luna's show. We also know where that will lead. No good can come of this with Todd on edge and Marty destined to not be a victim any longer. Zach makes a joke, to try and make the situation lighter but it doesn't work. Todd's still reeling from his father's attack, and trying not to show it. Zach dismisses Peter's words; Todd can't. He knows what it is about. The amazing thing that Roger does here is pull at our heartstrings, then make us hate him, then pull again, then make us hate, etc. It's a cycle that eventually ends with us loving him and feeling pity for him. And this is what Roger and TPTB intend. The vulnerability, matched with the charm and undeniable good looks is a winning combination.
The scene does go on to reveal that Todd is so afraid, he will try and stop the trial at any cost, which makes a lot more sense than just wanting to go out and hurt Marty again. He is desperate to keep the non-existent love from his father and scared of what his father will do in the second trial, and he shares this with Zach. Zach just sees it totally clearer than Todd does....he sees the other trial as just another trial, and if they keep themselves together, they will be acquitted. Todd just can't let it go that far, so he sets out on a plan, that eventually leads, with the help of Powell, to the ultimate outcome for all of them. The way Zach has to keep calling Todd's name makes me think - just a little - that Todd is not Todd at all here. Zach is just so sure he can beat the charges that he doesn't even consider the fact that Todd might screw it up for them.
He goes back to his stalking thing and catches Marty on the phone. He puts on the voice of voices - and somehow tricks Marty into revealing information about Suede's whereabouts. Marty thinks the voice is familiar and dismisses it as her own paranoia. In actuality, she's right anyway! Roger's country accent is fun to watch. He's quite the character actor when he wants to be. When he's in the bushes outside her house, it's a bit over the top but we accept it because he's Todd...and we know it will lead to something big.
FAIL: Nothing for this one, this time, except that Marty did not recognize Todd's voice with any sureness. She probably would have.

Another clip for us. Happy Halloween, my LEAST favorite holiday! A surprise for you all later! Commentary to follow, but I am actually getting lonely here, so join in with your two cents!
Ok, THIS IS MY TODD. He's developing and revealing himself slowly....and I LOVE IT. Roger starts to develop this character's depth in the scenes we see in this clip. I am going to focus on Todd's scenes. He's so self-satisfied after stalking Marty. He's getting more and more full of rage. Zach just makes me sick, period. He is emotionless, kind of reminds me of someone.
When Peter Manning comes in that room and attacks, I think we are sold. We are finally sold on the fact that there is more than meets the eye with Mr. Thomas Todd Manning. Peter is a NASTY PIECE OF WORK, and that explains Todd quite well. And this is only the beginning. Just look at Zach's face while Peter goes off on Todd. The following scene, after weeding through Looney, is when he's thrown onto the couch by Peter. Look at the subtlety there of him flinching to protect himself with each word Peter yells. He's basically cowering. He's like a scared, little boy. Then he jumps up to defend himself, like a teenage boy.....Tom anyone? He just completely caves in around Peter. Zach's eyes are bugging out. He sits down and pulls up his knees and hugs himself....OMG - this is where it starts. Totally.
Roger, you're outstanding. Please grant me an interview?

More of juju's edits, thanks to her! Commentary follows, tomorrow is Halloween, and I can get rid of this background!

Well, let's start off the clip with a nervous Powell and Zach calling him a girl. Not bad! LOL. Of course, this scene gives me more ammunition to say that Powell is definitely nuts and Zach is definitely a sociopath. "Bra burners." "What happened with Marty was not a big deal." He has no remorse or idea he was wrong. I DO BELIEVE that Todd DOES, inside, he knows, he knows what was done to him and how wrong the whole thing was, just can't connect with that "person" inside who sees it. Zach seems like a hollow nothing.
How stupid would Todd have to be to really try and strangle Marty after everything? This seems a little over the top, even for him. Hank and Sheila show up (how odd) just at the right time, and he's hiding in what looks like a cabana, although it can't be the one we know of later. because the pool was not right outside it. She doesn't see him at all. Ok. He's just a big old stalker! This whole scene just doesn't seem to make sense to me, considering he knows he cannot get caught! Our boy is ready with a croquet mallet when needed. LOL.
Love how that little blonde edge of hair near his face catches the light and sparkles all the time. :D
Juju, and others, might know where this was. Was it Marty's house? or part of the Buchanan's place? I am a little confused, but I think it's Marty's. Look how disappointed Todd is when he finds out they are going inside and he is out of luck. But he's also got to be a tad relieved that he can get away without being seen.
Wow, look at what a meanie Zach is when he bumps into Elmer! Ugh. He's a nasty piece of work too, without the obvious rage and hatred to back it up. Then he kicks the guy's stuff! How mean! Zach, it won't be long before you're in prison and staying there for quite a while.
I do like when Powell stares at the situation, it's almost like right then, he realizes what kind of people he's been hanging out with, not just Todd, and that he's made some of the worst choices and mistakes ever possible. This leads to what is next, so, once again, a perfect attention to detail by the OLTL writers. "Who are you supposed to be, Mother Teresa?" I'd rather be her than you, Zach! And there in the rubble is the missing sweatband! After being all the places it has been, there is no way it could have evidence or be counted as such, but everyone keeps looking anyway!
FAIL: Hank and Sheila are all dressed up and he decides to go swimming? On the way home from a Buchanan party, just HAPPENED to mention Luna's show while Todd listens, Suede now has enough chicken and fixings for four adults instead of two. These are the kind of scenes that kind of make me laugh, because they are full of unrealistic things, and you have to really suspend belief to pass it over and still love what is going on. OLTL had a few of these back in the day, but it never stopped us from loving it. That's what is so much fun about pointing out the FAILS; they are just there to remind us we loved this show and didn't care if it was perfect.

Hi all.....here's another of juju's great edits. Thank God for these. Commentary to follow!
I love how the show used current music all the time. That was a great part of it!!
The best part of this clip is Todd's reaction to Luna's broadcast. Didn't notice before but, "Hey babe, will you turn that garbage off" and the waitress ignores him. Gotta love it. Zach is trying to get Todd to forget it and move forward, but .... our boy is NOT that in control of his rage, Zach, don't you know that? Powell looks like he might choke. "Powell, stop him." Oh yeah, Zach, that really worked. Zach, of course, is really scared what will happen to the next trial if Todd goes off. Todd's ready to get some "payback."
Well, Suede runs off to go get food and Zach does NOT catch and stop Todd - so we end up with a stalker on our hands. I remember thinking that Todd had gone way too far here. Little did I know, it would get worse and worse before it got better!!! When I first watched this story, it was so engrossing, I used to love it! I can't imagine feeling this way about the current show.
There goes the waitress again, and it's subtle but really working. "Hey, honey?" and she turns the other way.....so good. OLTL, you really had it down back then. "Todd is not stupid. He's not going to do anything to jeopardize our case." Really, Zach? We all know that Todd is definitely going to do just that, and it will continue and continue and continue......this is where I think Roger's story really took off. the upcoming scenes in the alley are what I feel created the next phase of Todd. And, it gets darker and darker. Gotta love it.
This whole build up of Todd's story is what I think is missing among current Todd fans. They're not familiar with where he came from, what he did, how he did it and what it meant.....or how he revealed himself to us over the years. I have read a lot of comments on Juju's edits, and many fans have been converted over to RH just in a few views of a few scenes. It's obvious Roger's a superlative and superior actor....and can't wait, if coming, for his return.
FAIL: Powell's eating vs. Todd's. Todd's eating is awesome, natural, etc. Powell's looks forced and unnatural....and not as attractive. LOL. Even though Todd became a slob of an eater after jail, I still found it attractive to watch him eat. Wait, it was attractive to watch him stand. LOL.
Sound off - I really feel like I'd like to hear more of your opinions on these clips.

Clip of the Day, October. 28, 2010
I have to admit, I am getting really tired of seeing Marty and Suede. But, here's another clipperoo for us. Thanks to juju for her edits, every once in a while I like to throw that in. Commentary follows - what about you? I also cannot WAIT to get rid of the Halloween theme! LOL!
Marty and Suede. An ABC travesty. But it may have been harder for us fans to watch and love Todd if he killed off someone else, even accidentally.
OOOOOH I forgot this. Todd says to Zach that he's weird because he doesn't even care! Ut oh, Rita. What's the odds that Rita is another of Todd's "failed romances?" Rita took a hike? Todd's uncomfortable about relationships even then. Zach can't remember the girls' names, Todd has them burned into his head. this is the subtle wonder that OLTL was providing for us, and sometimes, we didn't even KNOW. The writers who wrote Todd were unbelievable. He is SO NASTY in parts of this scene, but underneath it, you can also see how hurt he is, as a person. And it's yet to be revealed. One reason I think the Rebecca thing worked was this very fact. Roger made that work because of how he portrays the layers of this man. Todd, in all his tortured nastiness, wanted to be loved. Marty and Suede. An ABC travesty. But it may have been harder for us fans to watch and love Todd if he killed off someone else, even accidentally.
OOOOOH I forgot this. Todd says to Zach that he's weird because he doesn't even care! Ut oh, Rita. What's the odds that Rita is another of Todd's "failed romances?" Rita took a hike? Todd's uncomfortable about relationships even then. Zach can't remember the girls' names, Todd has them burned into his head. this is the subtle wonder that OLTL was providing for us, and sometimes, we didn't even KNOW. The writers who wrote Todd were unbelievable. He is SO NASTY in parts of this scene, but underneath it, you can also see how hurt he is, as a person. And it's yet to be revealed. One reason I think the Rebecca thing worked was this very fact. Roger made that work because of how he portrays the layers of this man. Todd, in all his tortured nastiness, wanted to be loved. A rainy day here, a slight headache, overwork and tiredness - but gotta make time for my Todd. More Scooby kids and at least a little Toddness . . .
There goes the sweatband, hopping all over the place. It's a wonder anyone really thinks it could have any evidence that was untampered with at this point....but the kids do.
The pool scene: Marty plays it well, Suede, uh, well that's another thing. It's clear she's still not with it as far as relationships are concerned. I just love Bo and Nora, they are so cool together back then.
Then, Luna butts in to the magic that is NOT happening with Marty and Suede and proposes that idea for the radio show. Sigh. Of course, we need this because of the next development in the story and the creation of the infamous scar.
Yes, we get some Todd. Love how he eats. One of the greatest things about Roger is how he could make his character seem REAL to everyone, and he manages that quite well here. Love how the waitress sort of tells him off, too. Sorry but... "hillbilly bimbo Luna Moody" just got me. He's naturally funny too. Powell's reaction to Todd and Zach is great - love that he is starting to pull away from them so strongly. Todd's attempt at reminding Powell they are brothers, just shows a little too much of Todd - he's clearly scared that there is a chance that Powell will crack and everything will blow up. I love the panic mixed with coercion that is not really working. He wants to make sure Powell never talks, but can he? Roger's face when he turns to Zach after Powell's last comment is TO DIE FOR. This is why he won that Emmy.
The rest of the clip is Marty and Velour, I mean Suede.

Clip of the Day, October 26, 2010
Today is an exciting day for me, the "kids" come back to the after school program as high school volunteers now! I am so thrilled about it. Have not seen some of them since last June!
Ok onto the clip: commentary follows.
Ok the guy's name is ELMER? Can that be? Sheesh. There's Wanda again! Love her.
I think the perfect diversion for the fans, at this point, are the Scooby Kids Scenes and Bo and Nora's romance. Both are fun and light in the midst of something dark and terrible, that is about to get even worse. I love the light-heartedness of their romance and how natural they are. Always enjoyed them as a couple. That is why I HATED the idea that they had Nora go toward Clint in recent times. Gag.
The Marty and Nora scene is terrific. How can it not be? These two fine actresses on the same screen, full of emotion and history, I love it. I also love that breathy, emotional music behind their scene. Nora is perfect here. Always loved the soap opera music that the shows used to have. Unlike now. Marty makes a lot of sense in her comments to Nora....especially about why a person would go through all that just to cause trouble. Nora attempts to accept responsibility, which I like a lot. And in these stories, Marty learns to forgive people who have wronged her. Very important.
FAIL: Suede's performance, should just be a constant fail. Also, Wanda should have been approached to ask Elmer for help. That would have made sense, of course then, the story would have been one episode long.

Another episode with the "Scooby Kids" trying to get the evidence needed to put away the boyz.
I am completely convinced that TSJ should turn out to be Milton Bittlecomb grown up. Anyone?
Marty was getting to be really good friends with Rachel. In recent times, when Rachel returned, did TPTB remember it and make them friends? I think that sometimes friendships between female characters on soaps are few and far between because there is usually a man between them for some reason. These scenes between Marty and Rachel, Marty and Luna, etc, are really good and bring realism to the show. This conversation just reveals how alone she has been and how hard it has been without real friends. And - I just LOVE this Rachel....she's great! Hard to believe this is the same character who participated in the Georgie's murder story years later. A recast can have a terrible effect on a character, and don't we know that????
"Who moved it and where it is . . ." and they show the homeless guy. LOL. Well, he did have it, didn't he? I even forgot his name....was it Lenny? LOL. I guess I'll find out sometime in this clip. A slight bit contrived of a story twist. Luna brings fudge to Nora. Please. I guess that friendship kind of got patched up too. But all of the characters, like them or not, were just natural...they just acted so well they were not acting!
Todd at the door, with his music....dun nuh! This is going to be one terrible interaction. I love how Kevin and Rachel related also. More natural acting, things seemed real even if they were dramatic, sometimes far-reaching soap stories. This ALSO is what is missing today. First, the acting is wooden in so many cases. There's little that's based on an actor or character, and moreso on convoluted plots. If TPTB are having trouble figuring out why shows are getting cancelled one by one, they just need to look back in the history of the most successful times on soaps and see. It is right before their eyes if they choose to look. The quality of acting; real, deep stories that focus on detail and keep history accurate; good treatment of excellent actors and actresses; refusal to recast characters that developing big followings; character-driven stories. If soaps do disappear in the next ten years, as folks are guessing, it will be because of the lack of these important factors. What made us watch soaps is THE CHARACTERS that we came to know and could follow, day to day, not who looked best without a shirt.
FAIL: Luna's clothing, again. I was there during the 90s. This wasn't necessarily the way people dressed, or is it just that her character is not one of my faves?

The "Scooby Gang," as Juju coined it, comes to fruition in this edit. Commentary follows.
Marty decides they need to find the sweatband. As goofy as all of this is, I do enjoy it. I like to see something lighter about the story and it gives Marty time to bond with her new friends, friends she did not have before. I remember wishing the whole time that Jason was with Marty, not Velour, I mean Suede. His line about General Lee? (blech). They decide to go after Powell, how brainy, since he is the weakest link. Marty thinks the sweatband will make Powell crack. She may not need it, actually. Anyway, everyone's on the band wagon.....I like Milton Bittlecomb's scenes, so looking forward to some of that.
I love when Marty makes Rachel swear to keep it quiet with Hank and Nora. Rachel's not sure about it, but it makes for fun along the way, especially the scene in the hospital that comes much later. Marty's really going all-out to get the boyz retried and convicted.... Did I mention I like this Rachel best (LOL)!? She is so pretty in these scenes but I also think she can act circles around the later Rachel.
What can I say? Seeing Wanda Wolek in these scenes....just makes me so happy. I used to love her character, and her husband, in the old days of OLTL when I was a kid. So happy in my research to find that Marilyn Chris is still alive and I don't have to add her to my Dearly Departed database. Whew. Anyway, she makes for good comedic relief and I preferred her as a "parent figure" to Rebecca later on. The poor woman is not even on IMDB. And....enter Milton Bittlecomb....these day players were OUTSTANDING even if he is a walking cliche. Look how high his pants waistband is. LOL! They get him to promise man to man to man. And about Todd, "you can hear his knuckles scrape the ground when he walks." LOL! Milton, you're the best. Suede's best scene EVER is with Kevin here, propping up Milton so he gets convinced to help out!

Well...yet another of our fave man's videos. Yay! The weekend is here, possibly we'll get to a few more of these. Commentary to follow.
Suede. Great. Not.
"That bimbo Nora." LOL. Todd meets Luna for the first time. "Ok, I'll bite, who are you?" That's what I said.
The courtroom drama continues in judge's chambers. Nora may lose her job, and the Judge means biz. Why is this SO engaging? Look at all the players and their value as actors....! I just LOVE what Hank says to her, my one and only Hank moment. Wonderful stuff....the characters have history that the show just doesn't up and forget.
Luna says, "You gonna get yir butt burned." Oh boy. Zach: Marty's wacko friends.... Oh joy!
Todd makes a threat that he will soon keep. We start to see his penchant for revenge, and the story deepens from here on out. Love it. I think Zach also is seeing what Todd's really like here.
I also really started to like Bo and Nora as a couple during this time. Their relationship was very unique in its own way. It was fun to watch.
"The Queen and her court." I just realized that over 6 years later, in Juju's current uploads, he's still talking to Marty this way at times. He has the whole revenge tone....Roger is perfect at keeping his character firmly intact. Which is why we love it so much and hate to see it ripped to shreds.
FAIL: That dress on Luna, Luna's scene, Suede. Too much country stuff for me.

The halls of justice! Nora's complete meltdown and amazing closing arguments.
I can't say enough about what HBS does here. And Roger, right away, digs in with both claws...amazing scene and build up.....THESE OLTL writers knew how to tell a story. Nora even uses Todd's line - "lying slut." She's SO great here!! I think this might be my favorite Nora scene of all time. Ever.
Details. The old lady on the jury covers her face when Nora says "close your eyes." Marty is in tears watching Nora "testify" FOR HER. Luna (ok..ok) is almosst visibly shaking watching Nora break apart. Todd stands up and makes things worse, yet again, by showing himself. Nora, actually looks like she doesn't know what she's doing when Todd screams out and asks! Rachel breaks down crying.....Hank is glaring.....Todd continues, against the admonishment of the judge! Suede does not look like a poopy baby this time, he looks like a pacifier baby - you know, the face they make right before the pacifier goes in? Bo looks proud of her, it's subtle, but there. Judge Fitz looks like she is going to just break that mallet!!! "Maybe if I keep banging it, Ms. Gannon will snap out of it." Oh wow, scenes like this don't exist anymore....at all, for a multitude of reasons. The biggest of these is the lack of quality actors and writing.
The moment of the mistrial....wow. Love it....the reporters racing to a payphone - now that's a scene you'll never see today! LOL! Nora's about to collapse, and the look she gives Hank....! Fitzy is looking like she might hurt someone, she practically throws her mallet down and sort of loses control when she screams that last ORDER!
Another threat from Todd. He's so much the nasty evil one here, just gotta love him. It's obvious why people were drawn to him! The look on his face is pure hate. And we know he won't be letting go of that soon.
I love how Hank knows the deal with Nora, "she tried to do right by you, Marty." That just about sums it up.
FAIL: Fail? In this one? I don't know, maybe Suede's expressions, but other than that, nothing. I can't see a fail where there is so much winning!

Clip of the Day, Oct. 20, 2010
Hi guys, another morning. It's got that Autumn chill here in New England. Here we are with another chilling episode of Juju's Channel.
Powell plays embarassed here. Eh, I could have cared less. But I do remember HOPING he was going to crack. HOPING! Hank withdraws his own question. Nora cannot redirect anything, she's on the edge. The way Todd talks to her, is creepy, he's so menacing. He's at his worst (or at least some of his worst) during this trial. No wonder he wins an Emmy here.
The closing arguments are great, Hank reminds us they are "boys." Truthfully, they were men, and were definitely counted as much. OOOh Todd grabs her...she really does not like that one! I love when Nora leaves the court, followed by Rachel....but oh no, here comes Luna....sigh. There's Todd looking from a distance, the evil stare, at Luna, Marty, Suede.....he does a lot of damage later in the story to all of them....Todd's menacing, hateful and evil in this. He's totally Pete, if you ask me!
Nora is a mess, and I love this scene between she and Rachel. Wow....good acting all around of course. Clip of the Day Oct. 19, 2010
Hi all, and hoping your week is off to a great start....here's another of Juju's clips for us. We're getting close to the end of the trial, and more great stuff from Roger and the gang. Commentary follows.
First of all, we've all said it or thought it, but the day players back then were better than the main characters in some cases now. Judge F is one of my FAVE judges ever on OLTL. I love her and her attitude. She's perfect for Todd's story.
Nora is a complete shambles, and everyone knows it. Love the shot from the back of the court that they use here. What happened to "art" on these soaps? I feel like we loved them so much because they did so much to keep us loving them.
Powell's talking about Todd, not so convincing. By then, he doesn't even care if Todd breathes anymore. Nora is twirling her hair a lot. Another subtle way of showing us what is going on inside her! She's definitely shirking her responsibilities here. Looking at her in this scene, I just flashed on her when talking with Todd during the Lord Heir story.....as if he were having two heads.....how much they allowed these characters to evolve and interact, without losing sight of the real story and the past. Love it. Clearly she should be objecting over and over and instead, just sits there.
I simply LOVE when Hank says that Todd has a history of forcing himself on women, and Powell says "I didn't know anything about that!" Peter gets a nice slappola from Bo. Love that. "She's her own woman..." Peter has never thought of that one, neither has Todd. Step one to us understanding Todd more, and the misogynistic and abusive home he grew up in. I love how OLTL revealed Todd to us slowly, over ten years! So well done. Even if we get Roger back, I doubt highly we will ever get this back. A sad note: juju's edits may be all we have of Roger as Todd....imagine.
FAIL: I guess my fail here is "why didn't Nora just tell the judge WHY she wanted off the case?" I guess I don't know enough about the legal system to understand that. The judge says put your personal crisis aside, but we know why she's doing this....why not just tell? Hmmm....

First of all, we've all said it or thought it, but the day players back then were better than the main characters in some cases now. Judge F is one of my FAVE judges ever on OLTL. I love her and her attitude. She's perfect for Todd's story.
Nora is a complete shambles, and everyone knows it. Love the shot from the back of the court that they use here. What happened to "art" on these soaps? I feel like we loved them so much because they did so much to keep us loving them.
Powell's talking about Todd, not so convincing. By then, he doesn't even care if Todd breathes anymore. Nora is twirling her hair a lot. Another subtle way of showing us what is going on inside her! She's definitely shirking her responsibilities here. Looking at her in this scene, I just flashed on her when talking with Todd during the Lord Heir story.....as if he were having two heads.....how much they allowed these characters to evolve and interact, without losing sight of the real story and the past. Love it. Clearly she should be objecting over and over and instead, just sits there.

Powell on the stand with Hank. Another great scene for Sean M. Thanks so much Juju!
I always loved, and still do, the way Roger says his Ks and Gs. He makes such inflection on them.....wait, is there anything about him I don't love? Yes, his absence from OLTL. Otherwise, let's go on. Zach and Todd go for the attack with Powell. Peter Manning is going to buy them a Caribbean Cruise. Whooo hooo. "Think that's motivation for me? Being with you?" I'll take your place Powell on this cruise and push Zach overboard.....
Nora keep staring at Marty.....Nora's about to crack the only way she knows how, and I love it all. She's completely lost in what she knows. Hank trips Powell up a lot during this testimony....esp about the inviting in part. Nora makes no moves to interrupt....and the Judge is getting pissed. My gosh, Nora is just a total mess here, just look at her expression. It's like she had a stroke.
Hank is on the major attack and Nora's just sitting there. Of course, the judge is going to remind her of her task and...Nora's going to try, but just can't bear to do anything at this point to stop the boyz from going down. As soon as Kevin was out of the picture, things took a vast turn.
I still wonder what would have happened if they let us be in the dark about the rape and have to make our own decisions about the guilt or innocence until this part of the trial. It would have been interesting to say the least, and Susan's great work could have been done in flashback.
FAIL: Yuck that suit on Nora, so green! I don't think it would fly today at all. Yuckie.

Happy Birthday to my Grammie who is 89 today. Wow. Here's today's clip - love the acting in these stories. Commentary to follow.
When they start to talk about Powell's family, my heart does break a teeny bit. The fact that he never told his parents says a lot about what he was thinking...and feeling...at the time - PURE GUILT. He did not want his parents involved. I can imagine that. "I love my mom so much." Sean M. does do a great job here. I just can't stand the CHARACTER. But, the actor does a fantastic job, as all of them did throughout - Marty, Todd, Zach, Jason, Kevin, Rachel....all of the younger set was dynamic then....unlike today.
His voice cracks SO WELL. Roger's also does, but, Sean's is perfect in this scene. Nora also, "please Powell." She looks like she is going to have a breakdown and basically does. Marty even has hope he's going to tell, and so did I when I saw this story. When he says "no" she just about melts into pieces. She almost collapses. It is like, right then, she knew what she had to do and was not really ready to face it. She really believed she could break him, and she almost did. Now, she has to count on Hank do to the deed. Todd is starting to hate her more and more.
When Todd accosts her, "sweet, tortured boy," "there's not a thing you can do about it," he's really showing himself....and it will get worse, she just has no idea how deep his vengeance will go.
The scene at Roadies (sp) is just typical....of Toddness. Powell is SO COMPLETELY UNHINGED. There's Zach, only concerned how we they will get away with it. Powell brings up Carol Swift and Zach sees it as not another travesty, but as another roadblock and nothing more. Powell sees it as something sick; at this point, he is a mess over this. His voice is quavering all over the place. The comparison between Todd and Powell at this point is really making the viewer's mind reel. I personally always felt bad for Todd, and could read into his life based on the short scenes with Peter and other things about his demeanor.
FAIL: I might be the only one, but I was never a big fan of Hank. I mean, the actor did not always delivery his lines the way I'd hope they would be delivered, and his presence in Roadies' with the suit on is just...I don't know, doesn't work that well. I liked Sheila listening in, but....not too sure about Hank. I think he aggravated me sometimes, and still does. Lets just say not my fave of all the actors....but I loved his brother! ;D Maybe I like those bad guys, ya think?

Here we are, Powell time. Powell's on the stand....ok, it's a bit sympathy-drawing. Hope you all enjoy Juju's hard work. Commentary to follow.
Powell does kind of make me feel badly for him here, except ... well.. Here he is, working with disadvantaged kids, giving them positive role models...etc. And....he's done this horrific thing. He's had every advantage. And he still made this ridiculous decision.
Love the secret signal between Bo and Nora...!
Powell felt sleazy. And he did it anyway. He was a pawn. That makes him pretty low. "I had to." No one HAS TO do anything...but then again, he did. And that is what happened. The faces Nora makes and Todd makes are just so telling. I love that part of how the writers developed these stories.
Details details. Kevin and Rachel move closer and tighten their hands when Nora starts the real attack. When I first watched this story, I thought he was going to tell, and become a hero. I really did. I remember thinking that he would tell and that he would be forgiven and redeemed.
Just look at Nora here, "please, Powell." When Todd outbursts, and apologizes, he seems so...pitiful, but of course he is being manipulative. Judge F: this court will take a short recess. Nora: no. LOL. She's so desperate and she's falling apart. She thought she had Powell ready to tell and ... whammo, Todd butts in, at the encouragement of Zach, no less.
I somehow feel Zach was definitely the brains in this trio, and Todd was the brawn, and Powell was the .... the....wooss. Yep, that's it. Zach still puzzles and alludes me. He was so smart, ready for med school, yet he did this, and seemingly has no real reason. Then, he remains calm and cool, and on target throughout, and never is sorry....I peg HIM as the sociopath, not Todd. Todd's a nut, with a lot of mental problems but they are there for a reason. A sociopath never demonstrates remorse and has no feelings about what they have done. That does not describe our man. Zach, however . . . were the writers just unable to fully flesh him out, or am I right? Hmmm, good for QOTD.
FAIL: The DA's assistant writes on the pad in HUGE LETTERS for whoever is sitting behind, including Marty, "WHOSE SIDE IS SHE ON?" LOL. It's like telling us what we should be wondering, and we already know. LOL.

Finally Friday. I have had a terrible week. Terrible. I am tired and I am needing a rest, and not to mention, a few of Juju's vids! Here's our next scene, and commentary following.
Nora, sitting there thinking how this guy is a rapist and he shows up at her door. Dun-nah! I loved OLTL then. It was so....so....good. This scene is just....it's where we see what Todd's going to be capable of doing, both as a liar and "madman" and as an actor. He cozies up to her first, and she goes right along with him. :D
"I'd never seen you like that before." LOL. Little does she know....she will see a lot more of it over time.
When Nora mentions Carol Swift, Todd visibly stiffens. It works perfectly. Roger's just so adept at manipulating the screen and the viewer. Nora is so goofy looking when she says "Thank you Todd," but I guess the deal is that she is really aiming for this moment. And he rises to the occasion as if lying is the best and most natural thing. But if you think about it, his life has been a lie since he was 14 and had to cover what was done to him. Of course, we only know that later.
"Nobody got raped!" Reminds me of later, when he is saying similar things to Sam about himself. OLTL did such a great job developing and fleshing out this character. There is nothing like him. He reiterates how no one can prove anything. Nora is so so so convinced he's guilty. He is so menacing and threatening and she's not quite sure what to make of him at first....but she'll know.
Ok, finally, Powell's getting a bit better. When he says he has nothing to say to Todd, he's at least ADMITTING that Todd does not deserve his worship. He has finally gotten a teeny bit of courage to stand up to Todd. Marty: Nora's never going to believe me. Ironic, she does.
I DO LOVE the whole Powell scene coming up, where he is on the stand. For a few minutes, you can almost muster some pity for him. But, in my book, Todd is more pitiful than Powell from the get go. Powell had a picture-book life, and has no motivation or reason to have allowed the rape to go on, except his own wimpiness, and then we get the whole Powell the Pure routine. Ugh. Of course, later, the tides turn and we get a different Powell, but as of right now, he's a guy with a great life. I am sorry, but I never liked him at all, and never felt sorry for him during the trial, and only wished he would have stopped it. I did feel sorry for him later, but that is another story down the road.
FAIL: Nora's goofy face when she says "Thank you, Todd." I just can't take it seriously for that split second. She looks drunk. Maybe she's intoxicated by Mr. Howarth? You never know. Don't get me wrong, I love her acting in general and am SO HAPPY for what is coming up.
