Hello all! Thanks to bjujubee to making it possible to see these clips.
Marty. Sigh. Susan. Amazing. Always loved her acting through these times, and I still do. I also used to LOVE HER HAIR! Between she and Todd, it's hard to tell who has better locks. I think this is the start of the Marty/Andrew stuff which always creeped me out a bit, but it was entertaining at times. "Todd was sick long before he met you, Marty." Andrew, the voice of reason! He didn't know how correct he was.
Ok the MOTEL. Those of you who have been in chat know what I think about THESE scenes. Oh if it were ME handcuffed to Roger Howarth in a bed.....all right, I will control myself.
It's amazing how many MEN have long hair on OLTL during this period and beyond. There's Todd, there's Jason Webb, there is the guy at the memorial service for Suede with a long ponytail, later there is Dylan and then there is Patrick. :D I don't even REMEMBER it being that popular!!! :D Of course, the one who wore it best was our man.
Marty does carry off the grief quite well. The part about Suede's ring....a nice touch. That music in the background that just sounds silly, though.
In this second clip, we see more of the motel scenes (hubba). Though clearly trying to be ugly, Roger is inexplicably GORGEOUS in these scenes. OMG! I love the little peeks at the softer side of him, assuring her he is not going to hurt her, apologizing to her for taping her mouth. He's got a crack in that armor, that is for sure. Love Roger so much during these scenes (don't I say that all the time?) This is leading up to one of my fave scenes...the make up and hair thing! My god, can he be more adorable than this??? Love this scene and always have! He's VERY BEAUTIFUL here! Not that this is the important thing . . . heh heh.
"Never stole something or never got a rush?"
"No rush"
GOTTA love these two, the polar opposites. Amazing stuff and so early in his career.
The scene coming up with the scissors is one of my fave Todd and Rebecca scenes. "You're the only thing that's any good."
Some of his delivery in this part reminds me of Jack Wagner.....for some reason. Don't worry, it's not a LOT of the scenes, just when he explains what she is to him. Jack also had the long hair and beard thing going on during the early 90s and late 80s on GH. Just a tidbit.
He totally puts his life in her hands. She could have killed him or at least hurt him enough to get away. He is testing her, and she....just can't bring herself to hurt him or break his trust, for whatever reason. Then in a flash, she pushes him off the chair and tries to run? LOL! She had s scissor all that time! It's funny only because it's Rebecca, she just can't face how she feels about him, and of course, she cannot break any commandments. He almost loses his cool and of course, stops himself before he really hurts her. Back on the run for these two! Ah memories!
Zach's pretty great here, he did totally get the shaft!
FAIL: "To most people on the outside, he was so tough." Um....well? What maid cart has scissors????

It has been said that Todd was testing Rebecca when he handed her the scissors to cut his hair. but he was doing so much more, Todd was doing something very atypical for him, he was trusting her. Todd who didn't trust anybody actually put his life in Rebecca's hands. Not only did he give her scissors he turned his back and sat there waiting for her to cut his hair. I don't think even Rebecca realized how significant that was. Of course Rebecca couldn't hurt him , but she did make an attempt to escape. Naturally , Todd's walls went right back up and they had to go on the run again. Todd could have left her in the hotel tied up and took off on his own but he chose to to keep her with him even though she was fighting him. He could have been miles away in any direction with out her but Todd deep down wanted the companionship he wanted her. He knew he was falling for her and he was starving for any kind of relationship he could get.

ReplyDelete*Interesting how Marty's comments about Suede also happen to fit Todd at that moment in time. Cut to Todd with the one person he let see his soft gushy parts.
*It was the '90s, the era of grunge. All the cool guys had long hair and flannel shirts. Salvation Army style was in.
*I have to admit, although it made sense, I was always kind of annoyed at Rebecca for being such a whiny girl here. She really could have been more helpful.
*Oh, STFU, Powell. "I was in jail too." Poor Zach. I mean, I know he's also a scumbag, but he was the only one who really did the time for the crime. Would have loved to have seen a real "Zach pays Todd and Powell back" story. (That awful KAD redux story doesn't count in my book.) Zach is a character I'd love to have back.
One of the many interesting dynamics here is Todd doesn't quite realize how scary he has become to people now. He's trying to show Rebecca the "real him" (the "real him," of course, is many things...this is just another side of him we hadn't seen much of before) and has a completely different goal now, but she and others are still terrified from what they had seen the past year or so. Todd doesn't grasp this...he doesn't fully understand how people now perceive him, so even though he's being as gentle as he can be given the circumstances, and he thinks this should be enough to gain HER trust, Rebecca is still terrified of him.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see Zach back myself...out-smarting everyone in Llanview, because if one thing's clear in these scenes, he's pretty much the most intelligent person on the show...maybe ever. Did Zach EVER lose a war of words? I REALLY don't think he did. LOL. That's why it made absolutely no sense he would blow everything busting into Todd's house and grabbing a gun in the KAD rehash abomination. Too bad Josh Weinstein played Zach during that week, or we could chalk it up to another "impostor." You know, maybe we still can...someone got perfect plastic surgery. Now bring Josh back along with RH...maybe Reiko can return down the road to reveal that recast-Rebecca was also an impostor.
Well, we know Powell is still running around out there somewhere, right? And I refuse to believe that was Rebecca helping him. (Just as I refuse to believe that the real Todd would step over Rebecca's dead body like it was dog poo.) These scenes are a perfect example of how ridiculous that notion is. The girl who couldn't get a rush from shoplifting is going to turn into the woman who helps her psychotic boyfriend go on a killing spree? Puh-leeze. No way.
ReplyDeleteNo reason they couldn't bring the gang back together. Do the reunion right this time.
That's a great idea. except didn't Powell die?
ReplyDeleteI thought Powell killed "Rebecca" and then escaped. IDK, either way, it was a horrible story and I don't think most fans would mind just pretending it didn't happen at all. It was just so bad.
