Sage Uncensored!

http://sageuncensored.livejournal.com/

"Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) has several tattoos, which the make-up staff must camouflage.  The same goes for Don Jeffcoat's (ex-Joey) large dragon tattoo on his shoulder"

Some other good tidbits:

A whole entire section devoted to Roger as THE TODD.  Begins:

"Speaking of fashion faux pas, OLTL definitely cleans up in this category as well for all of the different shit we see in one day.  Yeah, the bad facial hair on Daniel.  We still get to see Poodle Cut 'Tonio in the opening credits, which is a scary, scary thing.  Trevor St John's itty bitty head simply does not work with all of that bushy hair all over the place.  Having Todd portrayed by such a little guy is dicey at best to start with.  Roger Howarth was Todd in every since of the word.  He was bigger than life and twice as intimidating, then would melt our hearts in a tender moment with Star or Addie.  He brought the conflicted, tortured, damaged soul of Todd Manning to brilliant life, never allowing us to think for even a moment that Todd was "one of the guys."  He knew Todd through and through to the point of questioning (at length) the writers' decision to bring Todd to the forefront as "romantic lead."  One of the major components of Todd's personality was his extreme sexual dysfunction.  Even with women he dearly loved, Tea and Blair, Todd was seldom able to open himself up to full sexual expression.  We got the distinct impression that even in the best of times, Todd and Blair's sex life was... complicated and likely rarely expressed. 1. Okay, I LOVE this:

"Now, we have Trevor St John portraying Todd as just an asshole and a smart aleck. He's a horndog to the extreme and he and Blair are going at it like bunnies every other scene (prior to the kidnapping). No way would RH's Todd have been able to perform for Margaret, Viagra or not… Still, the fact remains that Trevor St John simply cannot carry off the Grizzly Adams look and it makes him look even more diminutive in a previously very "big" role. He's not conflicted. He's not tortured. He's not damaged. He's just a jerk. Boooooooooo."

That is it to a 'T' (pun intended). Especially that last bit. Not conflicted, not tortured, not damaged...just a jerk. That has been my issue with TSJ's version of Todd all along.

Also, can I just say that I have also felt that TSJ just seems so much tinier than RH. Everyone keeps saying he's 6 feet tall and RH is only 5'10" but, honestly, I don't believe that. RH was always a little taller than KDP and she's pretty darned tall, even in flats. TSJ always looks like he's just a tad shorter than her. And he seems so much less "bulky" than Roger ever did. RH isn't really a big guy, but I always bought him as a football player. I cannot for the life of me imagine TSJ as a football star, unless he was the kicker.

Good stuff from Sage. Thanks for finding this.

  2. @daisy You're welcome. I loved it too.....and the thing about Roger's size, somehow they got us to see Roger as a football player, but if you REALLY LOOK, he's TALL but very thin and always was thin. He does have broad shoulders, but he's not bulky. TSJ looks like a peanut next to him and also next to Blair. You can also tell because TSJ and FL look almost the same size, while KDP is taller.

Roger also just "carried" himself so much larger on screen. He understood body language.

Yeah, for the life of me I've never understood how the TSJ fans think TSJ has given Todd a "softer side" or demonstrates any sort of conflicted nature...unless you go to the scenes where he's sobbing like a baby. His character is flippant and heartless unless he turns into Powell-type sniveling. He's one-dimensional. And every story has gone the same for him (which is largely the terrible writing, but it underscores the disconnect between the TSJ fanatics and reality)...1 step forward, 2 steps back.

TSJ's Todd all of a sudden starts sobbing and says he's remorseful for something after months of being absolute scum with absolutely not even one hint of remorse...then within a week or two he's back to being absolute scum without even one hint of remorse. It's been like this for at least 4 years now.

And I can't help but think the lack of internal struggle is largely TSJ's fault--the writers may intend for TSJ to "look conflicted," only for TSJ to not portray that because he's just not a good enough actor...which I strongly suspect...see the Rapemance, where it was clear from RC's comments that Todd was supposed to be uneasy about the whole thing and feeling guilty/conflicted as he lied to Marty, yet TSJ appeared completely unmoved and unimpeded, charging ahead without even one hint of concern. The fact that people PRAISE TSJ for his performances during that storyline is humorous to me. He was horrible.

I remember Erika Slezak's comment on TSJ's Todd, saying something to the effect of, "his Todd is so cold and without any warmth or compassion"...can't remember the rest of her comment, but I think she nailed it...and I got the sense she's less than enamored with his portrayal.

  4. Wow you said a MOUTHFUL. That whole RAPEMANCE put an end to my "return" to OLTL for Susan's tenure. It was, for lack of a better word, disgusting.

I love Erika's comments. Of course he is so cold and without warmth and compassion....the original was NOT the same and he's an imposter, Erika. The original had that compassionate streak. He paid for Eli's (boy with AIDS) medication; went to help Marty in Ireland because of Paloma; tried to give Blair the world, even in his sick way. The original was a tortured, damaged man who still needed and wanted love, deep down, but did not know the first thing about how to get it and keep it and did not love himself enough to learn.
