Clip of the Day, March 16 2011 (188)

Rebecca thinks she's just humoring C.J. and Sarah with their cute little game...boy is she in for a surprise!

I wonder where Todd got that knife from. I might have to go back and watch to see if it's ever explained...but what if it's the same knife he found while terrorizing Nora? Just a thought, but he may have kept that on him. Wow, the endless irony, symbolism, and other literary aspects in that, if that were actually the case.

Todd can't just leave that easily. Here come Rebecca and the kids to meet Ali.

"You're making fun of us!" These kids are awesome.

Rebecca sees Todd's parting gifts for the kids and the whole mood shifts. Sarah finds Todd in back...no way out of it now!

The Moment.

Love the dynamic here with the kids completely unphased and chattering while Todd and Rebecca stare at each other speechless, with the tension level through the roof. They don't need words.

"You guys talk." Indescribably cute.

Now we get to see the answer to the question from confession of "what will you say to her?" Todd said he didn't need to rehearse anything, but whether he actually planned for this occasion or not is anyone's guess. You have to think he couldn't help but think about this moment over all the weeks he'd been in there.

It seems like it's just coming from the heart as he's in the moment, as he wanted. He has me convinced...easy choice, leave Poet Boy while you still can!

And he says those three words. Not surprisingly, Rebecca looks for the tangent to avoid what she's afraid to admit. Todd's thumb is fine, Rebecca. Stop looking for excuses!

C.J. and Sarah lead Preppy Poet in the wrong direction. The fact that the kids aligned themselves with Ali and against Powell the Pure is an important statement throughout this storyline; they see more than what meets the eyes of the adults in Llanview. They're better judges of character.

Fail: Not really a fail, since it's really funny and adorable: C.J. and Sarah's high-five was off, LOL.

Why was Rebecca so excited about a date with Powell? That has to be one of the dullest experiences ever. She must get ultra-excited whenever she has a root canal, too.

OK, I hope someone has the chance to comment...I guess a lot of people have been busy.

Sound Off if you can!

  1. I know just how you feel about the commenting!!!! It's fun to write these commentaries and then . . . no one bites. But I will! I LOVE THIS SCENE or CLIP SO MUCH. Might be one of my top ten Todd vids. I just adore the high five accident, and that comment "You guys talk." It's inexplicable how he draws everyone, including Rebecca, in.

I am SO DOWN with the symbols, the metaphors, the everything about this story. The writers DESERVED every accolade they got back then. Being a writer myself, I just LOVE it and LOOK for it more than the typical viewer. And the story is CHOCK FULL of those moments. HOW can someone NOT love TODD??? He's gorgeous, pitiful, sexy without trying and vulnerable...aside from the fact that he can be very romantic - even though people say he's not a romantic lead. I like to call him the romantic anti-hero. To me, he was never really a villain past the first escape from Statesville and the Nora thing. I think after he accidentally killed Suede, and REbecca yells in the woods, "You're GUILTY! I KNOW YOU HEAR ME!" he realizes what's up. He was guilty and it was starting to bug him, what he did. A lot of his time in the Garden Shed, the memories, the confessional, the raw emotion, the stories with the kids.....all signs to this.

God, Roger, you are an amazing actor and I cannot wait to see you again.

  2. The problem with postig comments after you two guys do, is that we all think alike. You both put things so elegantly that there is not much more to say. My feelings about this scene were like 'oh yes, finally she see him again" only to know she's going to break his heart. Todd tells her he loves her and the first thing she does is avoid it by zeroing in on his finger. If I was Todd my reaction would have been 'gee that's all you can say, what have I done to myself, well that's really romantic.' Rebecca had already started building up this dream of the perfect romance with Powell, now she's faced with reality. From here on in she 'll be fighting her own heart. Not wanting to admit that she really feels love for Todd and Wanting desperately to hang onto what was just a dream with Powell.
Todd was right too, he needed to leave. but because of the inner changes that were already taking place he wouldn't be able to stay away for long. Todd was in love and in the end although the result wasn't what he had hoped for, his love was the catalyst that turn him around.
Last but not least Sarah and CJ were some of the best friends he could have made. I said it in a comment a long time ago, but I always felt that Sarah and CJ were excellent judges of character and even they knew that Todd was the better one when it came down to Powell and Him.
@kim I thoroughly agree, I can't wait to see him either.

  3. @Karena, it's ok! JOIN IN ANYWAY, or sign on to be a guest blogger and do the commentary yourself as well! Let me know if interested!!! Love your FANFIC, it's going great.

His love WAS the catalyst that turned his life around. SO TRUE. Great comment.

  4. Chinks in the armor were starting to show in prison and, like you said, Suede's death was the turning point. Todd's face after Suede hit the ground said it all.
