What Isn’t Being Said (Thursday’s Episode, 12/22/11) | Alexandra Coulter

John had taken Tea home and was trying to get her to stay calm. But Tea was wired and wondered how she was not going to be stressed when Todd killed her husband and was framing her brother and she couldn’t even tell her daughter. Who walked in on the trailing end of the sentence. Tea looked flustered when Dani wanted to know what she couldn’t tell her. John stepped in and said it was about Christmas presents. Dani prattled on about the wonderful presents she had gotten for her mom and for Todd. Tea was shocked and wanted to know why she’d buy a present for Todd. Well, because he got me one and he’s my dad. No, he isn’t! Tea shouted. (Can this out of control stuff all be about hormones?) “Parenthood is not just biology.” Victor loved her. Dani pointed out that she loved Victor, too, but didn’t want to feel disloyal to him or to her mother because she wanted to get to know her real dad. He was trying. John interrupted and said that maybe her mother was a little sensitive because of the baby. Tea, saved by the bell, as Dani went to answer the door.
That Ford kid was at the door. He bought her a watch - the one she wanted. How did he know? Nate knew her. She got him a present too. A book on acting. She knew he wanted to be an actor, even if his debut was a porn film. They talked about it again. (How many times do we have to hear about his?) She forgave him. I thought she already did. They shared a kiss and then a warm hug.
Back in the living room, John told Tea once again that the only way to keep her brother safe was to not let Todd know they were on to him. (I’ll say again, how can he not know?) They were so comfortable together on the sofa, her feet behind him, reading each other’s minds. But not being able to sit still, she kept shifting around. John said she shouldn’t worry about all this. He would keep her up to date, but, she interrupted, “I don’t have to call you 5 times a day.” John chuckled and said he liked hearing from her, but no. John told her all this animosity toward Todd wasn’t good for her, the case or the baby. She promised she wouldn’t even think about Todd. John said that made him happy. “See,” he flashed a toothy grin. Just then, Dani came in with a “beautiful” bunch of flowers. Who are they from? Tea wondered if they were from John. No. The were from Todd and Dani read the card, “Get well soon and Feliz Navidad.” How thoughtful. Even John had to agree. But when Dani left the room, Tea threw them across the room. John’s eyes were rolling.
Todd ran into Jack in the hallway and immediately knew something was wrong. Jack said he was fine, just had to wash his face. Todd smacked him on the shoulder, chuckling. Washing lipstick off, huh?
On the phone, still in Todd’s office, Shane pleaded with Neela to meet him in Angel Square, as Neela looked at the tape recorder. Neela stuffed it in her bag, grabbed her coat and took off. But she ran into Jack and Todd in the hallway. Todd was gracious, said Scrooge had work to do and left them alone. Jack asked if she was leaving because of what he said. He needed to know that she wasn’t going to rat him out. Neela looked confused. He wondered if his confession had freaked her out. No, no, she just had to get to Vimal’s for Christmas Eve. Jack told her how much he appreciated having someone to talk to and reached over to kiss her. Neela ducked out of the way and left.
In Angel Square, Shane was eager to hear what Neela had to say. He told her he needed good news for his dad. The longer this went on, the harder it was. He seemed about to break. When she told him Jack had confessed, he hugged her. But Neela only said he confessed to bullying Shane. (But there’s a whole lot more on that tape!) Was that it? Shane wanted to know. Neela said he told her it led to Shane trying to kill himself. Wasn’t that bad enough? Shane blew it off - everybody knew that. Neela said that was all. But as Shane went on about how guilty he felt, how it was all his fault his mother died, Neela softened up. She tried to assure him that it wasn’t his fault. Shane was unconsolable and made to leave as if he was going to try to kill himself again. Neela said wait, she had lied to him, her hand on the tape recorder.
When Jack returned to the office, Todd was eating the leftovers, saying they must have ordered everything on the take-out menu. What’s wrong with Neela? he asked. She looked like she’d eaten some bad papadon. What’s that? Flat bread, Todd said. He encouraged Jack that there was nothing he couldn’t tell him. Jack snapped back that he had Neela, he didn’t need him. Todd wanted to know what he told Neela. Todd sympathized with Jack missing Victor. Jack said nothing and then told him he had accepted the truth that Todd hadn’t killed Victor. Todd swallowed hard. Todd offered Jack money to get Neela a present. Jack looked touched for a moment, but then went blank again, satisfied. He said he had to go home for Christmas Eve, but then turned and asked Todd what he was doing for Christmas. Todd fussed with things on his desk and said he didn’t know. It wasn’t a big deal. He hadn’t celebrated it in 8 years. Jack asked if he wanted to join them. Todd did a double take. He told Jack how surprised he was. Jack said he probably would’ve blackmailed him into asking anyway. Todd was happy he thought of it first. Thank you, Todd said, pleased. I’d love to.
At the Buchanan mansion, the doorbell rang and Aubrey, primped, flipped and fluffed her hair and got ready for it to be Rex. I want to know why he would ring the doorbell of his own house? But it was Rama, with a present for her. Aubrey told her Rex wasn’t there, that she was sure he was having second thoughts about her. Rama said she could spend Christmas with her, Vimal, and Neela. Aubrey explained that Neela was with Shane. No, Rama said, she’s in love with Jack Manning. Aubrey winced and said she should watch her with Jack. Rama wanted to know what that meant. Aubrey hesitated and then said, “Jack is . . . not a good influence. Rich and entitled.” Rama thought Rich was great. Aubrey wined about the stocking and whether she should put it up. Gigi was dead after all. Santa wasn’t going to leave her a present. They talked of Cristian Vega and how Rama had gotten a card from him. He had addressed it to all of them. Said he was happy and found a nice girl. Erin Torpey? Rama assured Aubrey that she would get her happy ending. (With Rick Powers, maybe?) Aubrey told Rama she’d be over later, but she wanted to make sure Shane got to Vicki’s safely, first.
In Paris, Texas, where all the action was happening, Cutter told Gigi and Rex that he was done lying. The Truth was: Stacy was really Gigi. He explained about how there were no scars and that’s why the plastic surgeon couldn’t change her back. This was her original face. Gigi was open mouthed. Rex didn’t believe him. He’s always lying he said, and told “Stacy” how Cutter had murdered someone and left his sister to take the rap. Gigi was distraught. Seems she’d been with Cutter for months. When Cutter said again, this was Gigi, Rex hauled off and hit him. Cutter ended up with a gag in his mouth and his hands tied behind his back. Rex had called the cops and they hauled Cutter out, still insisting it was Gigi.
Alone in the mansion in Llanview, Aubrey hung Gigi’s stocking. Her phone rang and she ran to it, thinking it was Rex. But it was Cutter calling her from jail. He had one call and didn’t know who else to call. He was in trouble.
Back in Texas, Rex told Gigi that he had seen her body. (But was it Stacy’s body he saw? Wouldn’t you think he could tell the difference?) Gigi kept saying that she didn’t want to hurt him and she couldn’t have killed her sister. Rex wondered what he was doing there, since he had someone in Llanview who cared about him. Seems to me, this person in front of him, whoever she was, cared about him, too. Gigi said she’d give anything to go back in time to find out what really happened that night.
Professor Del Phina (sorry about my mistaken hearing previously on this) showed up, looking for his glasses again. Which Rex found them on the top of the Professor’s head. Rex asked him about the book which only said Don’t Give Up, but when he opened it again, there was text on every page. It was the Professor’s father’s book “Mysteries of Time Travel.” His father was an expert on time travel. The door, “or portal if you prefer” opens only every 20 years. In 1968, his father had helped a young couple like them (Rex said they were not a couple) come back to the future. In 1988, and in 2008. Gigi wasn’t willing to wait 17 years for the next one. There were other ways to get answers. Professor Phina said he was capitalizing on his father’s work. He needed to pinpoint the time. He fumbled for and pulled out a device that Gigi said looked like a TV remote. (Funny, the things you can remember.) He called it a Space Time Navigator. Rex wasn’t buying any of this and said he thought it was a con. The Professor reminded him he had asked for nothing. This was for research. Also, he said, he believed in fate, in cause and effect. The three of them were all there for a reason. “Something big was behind this convergence.” Gigi just wanted to know what happened.
Professor Phina asked some questions. Where did it happen? Llanview, Pennsylvania. Well, of course, he said, that’s where you’re from. Not Kalamazoo, Michigan (but isn’t that where they are both from?) He continued to punch numbers into the Navigator, asked the date, put in some variables, etc. And then he asked for a screen to view it on. The Professor explained that he couldn’t send them back, but that they could watch it. Gigi knew just where there was a little TV behind the counter. The Professor didn’t know how to turn it on, when Gigi took the cord and plugged it in. The TV came on with nothing but snow. When the picture popped on it was Gigi and Roxi at the Gate House, before the wedding. The Professor had to fiddle again to get sound. They watched Gigi leave the Gate House. In Texas, both Gigi and Rex were struggling with the scenario that was unfolding. They asked if it would follow her into the abandoned building (or, I wondered, would we have to watch the other goings on in Llanview?) Professor Phina assured them, we would see what happened. The last scene was Stacy creeping around in a different outfit.
