In the Afterlife (Monday's Episode 1/9/12)

I know now why the actors were so insistent that we watch and were so excited about all this. I was so engrossed, I can barely read my notes. As Louise in her "Serial Drama" column said: we probably wouldn't have all this if it weren't for the show ending. Like Louise, I would gladly give up this great stuff for an ongoing "One Live to Live," but such as it is . . .

The show opened with narration from the Angels as we saw Todd comforting Blair, Starr worried about Cole, Jessica and James worried about Ford and even John and Natalie in the church.

John and Natalie shared that kiss again. Very sweet. But then things got a bit awkward with them. Natalie asked John to check on Mitch. It was, after all, Mitch. When John poked around at him to see if he was really dead, Mitch reached up and put his hands on John's neck. They wrestled. Natalie got the gun and shot Mitch several times. Perfect shot. She was glad she did it. For Jared. Natalie was a good choice to send him to hell, where he belonged. I, for one, will miss Mitch, though.

When Mitch woke up in the afterlife, he thought God was sending His messengers to get him, but it was hell's guardian's Stacy Morasco and Eddie Ford who came for him. Stacy made sure he knew that Jessica was not his daughter.

At the cabin, Troy struggled to save Bo, but he finally gave up. "He's gone, Nora," Troy said. Then, he casually left saying something about not ever being able to have Nora. Nora was sobbing over Bo, not willing to let him go. (As she wasn't willing to let Matthew go, either.)

In the afterlife, Bo was met by Gabrielle Medina. They had been in love once, almost married, and Gabrielle wanted him back. She cooed at him and flounced around in her white flowing gown, with white curtains around. She talked about the life they could have together. Bo had to admit to her that he was in love with Nora, always would be; she was the love of his life. Then, he heard something in the distance. It was Nora crying for him to come back.

Ho Hum . . . Jessica and James were in the operating room while they worked on "Bobby."
Meanwhile Bobby Ford was being greeted by his dad, Eddie. The scenes in the afterlife were filled with dancing movements. (I believe John Wesley Shipp was a dancer, so he was particularly good.) Maybe without sets they had to keep moving. Lots of swirling around and moving from here to there. Especially in the scenes on the "good" side. Eddie and Ford were arguing about who was the worst of them. Ford said he had become a better person because of Jessica and he wanted to go back. He finally pushed his Dad through the door with fire behind it and went for the door with the light. He went calling for someone to help him and ran into Luna.

Starr, too, was in the operating room while they worked on Cole. When they gave up on him, Starr was alone with him, crying and telling him how much Hope needed him and how much she loved him. James overheard this.

Cole was greeted by Luna Moody. He'd never met Luna. He wasn't even born when she died, but Luna was a good friend of Marty's and said so. Cole was rather downhearted, thinking that Starr was with James now and didn't need him. But Luna told him to listen to what Starr was saying to him.

In the afterlife, Vicki was with her daughter, Megan. Vicki had been there before . . . She and Megan had a warm reunion, but Vicki was having a hard time staying awake. It seemed Vicki was tired and ready to let go, but having a hard time. Megan wanted to help her let go, reminding her of how she let go of Jake.

Stacy Morasco was doing her pole dance and telling Clint she wanted her heart back. And she recounted some of Clint's misdeeds. Clint said his family needed him and he had to go back to Vicki. He had to clean up the mess he made of his life. He went storming through the door with the light and found Vicki. He told her to come back with him.

At Llanfair, on this plane, Natalie and John arrived to find Vicki and Clint still neatly laying on the floor. John called the EMTs (again) and Natalie cried over her mother. John kept reassuring her that all would be well. In the end, both Vicki and Clint woke up.

In the last scene, the angels gathered. Gabrielle said Bo was going back to Nora and that maybe it was for the best. Megan agreed that it was a good thing that Vicki and Clint went back together. When they looked to Luna she said the doctor could only save one. Would it be Cole or Bobby?

Now, I know there are a lot of us who would just love to see the Ford boys destroyed. Cole back gets rid of James and means no more Ford! I have to say, between Cole and Ford, Ford's crimes are much bigger and more pervasive than Cole's. Cole acted out of passion. Ford's been an awful womanizer for a long time. As Eddie pointed out, he didn't rape Nora, but Ford raped Jessica. And Ford hadn't changed because it was the "right" thing to do, he changed because he wanted Jessica. Another woman. So, I think, in terms of morality, Cole is the one that should come back. In terms of who wants to come back the most, I'd have to say "Bobby" put up more of a fight to get back to Jessica. But I suspect there may be other factors making the decisions. It might just come down to contract negotiations.

One down and four to go . . .
