Fast or Slow: Alexandra's Recaps

The pacing of the show feels odd to me these days. Maybe it's because it's been cancelled and we don't have the luxury of forever. How long will we wait for Blair and Todd to find each other again? We are running out of time.

On the other hand, things seemed to happen rather quickly on Wednesday's episode.
The big news is that the soap opera Fraternity Row has been cancelled. Roxie is beside herself. Rama tried to comfort her with a saying from India: "What's the use of crying when the birds have eaten up the whole farm?" This, of course, was way too subtle for Roxie. When she turned down Rama's offer of a drink, it was obvious she was in a bad way! (Though I wonder if Roxie would like Rama's Delhi Belly, preferring something a bit stronger.)

So, off Roxie went to find her hero in Clint Buchanan. Evidently Buchanan Enterprises used to own Fraternity Row. But now, Clint is powerless to fight the "empty suits," as Roxie called them, who cancelled the show.

Yes, it might appear the writers are making fun of the distances we might be willing to go to save our soap. Putting it into the hands of the comic relief could be construed as leaning in that direction. But I don't think so. I love Roxie. Stating that Fraternity Row has been on for 43 years, "through thin and thinner," how can you help it? Almost everyone on the show (except maybe Todd who's been away from it for 8 years) is devastated by the news of the cancellation. Even respectable characters like Clint can't believe it. It's been so good lately, how could they cancel it? But Nigel assured him that Soap Opera Weekly is a "reputable publication" and has never gotten anything wrong. I think the writers are giving us a nod and playing with it. Who knows where Roxie will go next for help?

Clint and Nigel's talk shifted to Vicki and the kiss she and Clint shared the other day. Evidently Clint has gone soft in captivity. Just because you're sharp in business doesn't mean you have a clue what's going on around you. Why didn't he realize Vicki may not be interested in reading his readily accessible letter from Kim? Or that she wouldn't get the idea he was thinking of Kim as he kissed her? I can see Kim and Clint as an interesting couple, but my heart would prefer Clint ended up with Vicky. Still, the two of them are behaving like children.

Vicki had stormed out of the room and over to the Buenos Dias Cafe where she spilled her anger all over Noelle's kitchen. A bit too over the top, I'd say. It was as if Dorian had just pulled a fast one on her. Vicki's behavior said the kiss, which was of course very good, meant more to her than she was willing to admit. (Vicky should be careful about not being in tune with what she's really feeling.) If it weren't for the nobly looking pie, she wouldn't have calmed down and decided to go with Noelle to Paris, Texas. There seems to be a magnet in Paris, some connection with Llanview. And every once in a while a call is placed and everyone ends up there.

This whole Kim/Aubrey/Rex/Gigi/Cutter thing is wearing me out. In the time it took for Rex to have a drawn out conversation with Kim in prison in Kentucky, Aubrey was able to hop a plane to Llanview, PA and convince Rama to send the real photo of Cutter committing the murder.
Kim looked adorable in her brown prison outfit and matching nails. (Do they allow nail polish in the cell?) No matter what she said about needing a manicure, her nails looked pretty good to me, for however long she's been there.

After Kim filled Rex in on the Stacy Saga and how she was in the poisoned building at the same time as Gigi, I'm left with two questions:
#1 How could Kim be so sure she dragged out Stacy?
#2 How long will it take the Private Eye to figure it might've been Gigi?

Kim and Rex struck a deal: If Rex gets Kim out of prison, she will help him find "Stacy," who we now know is Gigi. How's that going to work for Rex?

I wonder what kind of law enforcement they have in Kentucky that Kim can be put in jail with a doctored up photo and be let out with a cell phone picture of someone else leaning over the body? It wasn't like Cutter was sticking a knife into the guy . . . And how old is that picture anyway? I guess the scales of justice must tip quickly and loosely to keep the story moving.

In Paris, Texas, Gigi continued to remember things like where the catsup is kept at the Bonjour Cafe. Cutter did impersonations and generally acted like an ass. It seemed the two of them needed jobs and there happened to be two openings at the Bonjour Cafe for a waitress and a dishwasher. Gigi, of course, fit perfectly into the uniform. I can't quite figure out what Cutter wants: to spend his life as a dishwasher so he can live next door to Gigi at a nearby hotel?

Finally, Shane tried to convince Neela that she is the only one who can get Jack to tell the truth about how he killed Gigi. It seems odd to me that Neela would so quickly give up on her prince. Jack was nervous as they arranged to get together. He said he had to ask his mother. Are you kidding me? This kid gets away with murder and has to ask mommy? I must admit, whenever Jack is on screen I cringe. He is good looking; could well be Todd's son. But I wonder how he got so messed up. He didn't suffer the abuses his dad did . . .

So Neela is going to see Jack with a hidden tape recorder. Kim will soon be bound for Llanview while Vicki is off to Paris, Texas. Will Rex hear the Paris call, too? Roxie will, no doubt, be heading to parts unknown to fight for her soap.
